Grade 1/2 News

Over the last two weeks, the students in 1/2 have continued to explore the history of the local area.

They have learnt about the history of the street names in Wangaratta and learnt that the first squatter to the area was a man called Rattray who had a camp near where the old stock bridge is today.

They explored some of the older buildings including St.Patricks Church, The original Post office building and the King George V gardens.

In Literacy, the students continued to write persuasive texts.

Students have been learning how to convince others of their opinions by debating topics such as winter or summer and sweet foods vs savory foods.

In maths, students have applied their knowledge of 1/4s, 1/2 and full turns to create patterns using triangles, rectangles and kites.

Our Year 1/2 students have been enjoying learning all about ADVENT and how it is a time to prepare and wait for the birth of Jesus.

The 1/2 Unit is having our final Liturgy for the year on Wednesday, December 11th.

It will be at 11.30 am in our school chapel.

Families and friends are welcome to come.

Our Bernie trophy was shared this week between 1/2 Dellicastelli and 1/2 Butler.

It has been a pleasure to see so many students receiving certificates for 250 and 300 nights of reading.

We would also like to thank our students for such a wonderful year of learning.

We hope everyone has a great and happy holiday break.

Kind regards, 1/2 Team
