Year 7 Changemaker Projects Expo

In the final two weeks of this term, our Year 7 students took part in an engaging Inquiry unit focused on the theme of being changemakers and exploring the vital role water plays in our lives.

Throughout the unit, students delved into various aspects of water use in our region. They investigated topics such as waste management, environmental impacts, water conservation and the role of water in industries like farming.

A highlight of their learning was the 'Immersion Days' which allowed students to engage directly with local water-related issues. They visited key sites like Coolabah Turf, Torrumbarry Weir, Scenic Drive, and Barmah National Park. Additionally, they participated in interactive sessions with experts from Campaspe Shire's WICKED team and Coliban Water, as well as with local farmer Russel Pell, who shared valuable insights into the local water ecosystem.

The unit also emphasised the development of essential skills, such as collaboration and critical thinking, as students worked together on their projects. They completed self-assessments to reflect on their growth in these areas. The program aims to nurture lifelong learners who think critically, collaborate effectively, and contribute positively to their communities.

The students' hard work culminated in an Expo Day last Friday, where Year 8 students, parents, guardians and staff were invited to explore the students' projects. It was a fantastic opportunity for the Year 7s to showcase their learning and discuss their findings with the school community. Feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive, with students expressing great pride in sharing their knowledge and ideas.

A big congratulations to our Year 7 changemakers for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the project!
