Glenn Roberts Retires

It is with much gratitude and appreciation that we acknowledge and celebrate the immense contribution of Mr. Glenn Roberts to St Joseph’s College. After 44 years as an educator, and 30 years of distinguished service at our school, Glenn will this week ‘hang up’ the teaching boots and begin a well deserved retirement.

Glenn started at St Joseph’s in 1995. After initially beginning his work as a Graphic Designer, Glenn was working at the old Echuca Technical College when principal Sr Catherine Kelly (who our new administration building at Kildare Campus is named after) employed him for his obvious Art teaching skills, and to take on the challenging role of Year 10 Coordinator - a decision that would ultimately become a 30 year partnership. Despite coming from the state system, it was apparent from the early days that his contemporary spirituality and fierce advocacy for the socially marginalised and disadvantaged made him a perfect match for the Brigidine ethos.

Glenn has inspired countless students in the Art area. He is a talented artist in his own right, but it was his capacity to bring out the creative best in his Art students, particularly Year 12 Studio Art, that will be one of his on-going legacies.

Glenn has taken on many roles at St Joseph’s, including Art faculty leader, Religious Education Coordinator, Year 10 and 12 Year Level Coordinator, VCE Coordinator and Learning Enhancement Leader. He was also a member of the Leadership Team undertaking the roles of Faith and Catholic Identity Leader and Student Wellbeing Leader during a time of significant growth and change for our College. As a teacher, and in these leadership roles, he has supported and nurtured the lives of thousands of students, particularly those who were most vulnerable.

Glenn also embraced the challenge of being a pioneer for our East Timor Immersion. From day 1 he loved the Timorese and the Timorese loved him. For 10 years he was the glue that made this one of the most life changing experiences for our students. Every student who went to Timor came back changed for the better, and a big part of that was due to the work and dedication of Glenn. Glenn’s time spent in Timor-Leste is a testament to his deep commitment to the people of that country and its culture and his readiness to live out Catholic Social teachings.

Congratulations Glenn on an outstanding career in education and for your long and distinguished service to our school community. We wish you a restful, happy and relaxed retirement full of fishing, contentment and special times spent with your loving friends and family.
