Library News

“No-tech Tuesdays” encourages students to spend time away from their laptops so they can spend time socialising with their peers in the library. Increasing social interactions can lead to enhancements in individual health and wellbeing. Consequently, on Tuesdays more students can be seen playing chess, checkers or building the latest LEGO project. These activities have now become more popular with students at recess and lunch on any day of the week.
Indeed, our LEGO enthusiasts have completed our available kits, so we purchased three new ones. These new kits were built as soon as they were made available. Building LEGO results in students working together and socialising. Moreover, students start to help each other to find parts and build the LEGO project. It helps develop fine motor skills and keep the brain active. Finally, LEGO gives students a rest from computers, and is fun and relaxing to build. We will gladly accept any donations of Lego or the instruction booklets.
Another program on offer is the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). Students will receive a certificate if they read twenty books, including up to ten books of their own choice. Please email Mr Boyce on andrew.boyce@mn.catholic.edu.au if you wish to register. The library has a range of PRC titles available for loan.
The NRL Footy Tipping competition has proven to be quite popular with both staff and students. Tips for Round Four are to be submitted to library staff by 3.15pm on Thursday afternoon. It is free for both staff and students to join. There will be a ladder and leaderboard made available in the Fiction area.
