From the Principal

I would like to wish all our families a happy and holy Easter. If you are travelling, please do so safely and come back to us recharged for the final two short weeks of school. Next week (Week 10) is a shorter week due to Easter. Likewise, Week 11 is shorter due to the last day being a pupil-free day for staff development. All staff will be working with the RE and Spirituality Team from the Catholic Schools Office completing Faith, Story and Witness which is a required training course for all staff who work in a Catholic School.

Last week I had a casual teacher drop into my office and say:

You have a great school! In other schools that I have worked in, of 25 students in the class, 20 muck about and don’t want to be there, the other 5 want to learn so you work with them. That’s not what is happening here, most of the students want to learn and get on with the work set.

We are so grateful to all of our casual teachers who are so important in ensuring that learning in the classroom continues when the regular teacher is absent.

Thank you also to our teachers who ensure that lessons are prepared even when they have to be away.

Attendance – reminder this will be raffled at the next Assembly. There are, approximately 270 students, who have a 95% attendance rate. However, the student will need to be at school for the raffle draw in Week 10. If they are absent, we will redraw. Next term we will have another raffle just based on the Term 2 data. I am aiming for an improvement in the 37% of students with a 95% attendance rate. Remember, school attendance is compulsory and being in class is one of the best ways for a student to reach their potential.

I have had some senior students in my office recently reporting actions of a few junior students they had witnessed outside of school, that were not acting safely and were not doing the correct thing. These few students addressing such matters is an example of a MacKillop Merit - "Seeing a need and doing something about it." It is also living out our school motto “Have a care for justice; act with integrity”. Thank you to our senior students for not walking past and ignoring the situation but for supporting our younger students to stay safe.
