Wool Overview Program

Ten Year 9 students have taken the opportunity of two days of RIST hands-on coordinated activities that give a holistic overview of the wool industry. They commence on March 25 on a leading wool growing property with involvement in animal husbandry and shed work activities.

On April 26 the focus shifts to the multitude of career pathways ensuing such as scientists, fashion and fabric design, marketing and tours of a wool store and sales floor.

Students will see that the wool industry has a strong future with recent record-breaking wool prices and the diversification and advancements in innovation which are increasing the employment demand to fill the many career pathways. It is pleasing that students are exploring this option as in Year 10, VET offers students the opportunity to further their interest in this area. This can be done as a school-based apprenticeship through RIST in Certificate II and III in Agriculture or as a VET student through SW TAFE as Certificate II in Agriculture. Years 11 and 12 also offer these courses.
