2 Great Playdough Recipes!

Welcome back to our Playgroup families! We had a lovely time at Playgroup today. The kids seemed to really enjoy seeing each other after our break. They mostly played with our freshly-made playdough and cotton sand.

I thought I would share two great homemade playdough recipes.

Cooked Playdough

2 cups of plain flour

1 cup table salt

4 tablespoons Cream of Tartar

2 cups of warm to hot water

2 tablespoons oil

Food colouring

Optional – ½ to 1 teaspoon of peppermint essence or scented oil of choice

Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan. Cook over a medium heat for 3 – 5 minutes or until the mixture congeals. Once cool, store in an airtight container.

If wheat is a problem, try this gluten free playdough recipe:

McKenzie’s Gluten Free Playdough

1 cup Rice Flour

1 cup McKenzie’s Corn Flour

1 cup table salt

4 teaspoons Cream of Tartar

2 cups hot water

2 teaspoons oil

Food colouring

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan over a low heat until all is combined well and a dough consistency is reached. Once cooled, store in an airtight container.

* A tip for if you would like to have a few different colours: do not put the food colouring in before cooking. Once cooked, divide the playdough up and colour each ball of playdough individually, kneading the colour through. This can be very messing and staining can occur, so do not colour on your bench top; have something underneath the dough and wear rubber gloves to knead the food colouring in.
