A Message from the Principal
Mrs Carolyn Parsell
Dear Parents and Carers,
As the season of Lent leads us on towards Easter we take this opportunity to stop and reflect on the need to pray, fast and give. Last Sunday was the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Known as Laetare Sunday, it is a time to rejoice as we are half way through Lent and Easter is getting closer. Rejoicing is at the heart of our faith. Let us remember to spread the joy of the Gospel in our words and actions throughout this season of preparation for Easter.
On Wednesday 20th March we have our first P&F General Meeting for the year. All parents are warmly invited to join us for an opportunity to share our hopes and plans for 2024 and beyond. We will be discussing our 100 year anniversary coming up in 2025. Parents are welcome to join the meeting via Zoom. A link will be provided via Compass prior to the meeting.
Our Open Day on Thursday 8th March was a huge success. It was well attended and the feedback from parents was very positive. Our school leaders and colour house leaders led tours of the school and impressed the visitors with their welcoming manner and knowledge of the school, so beautifully articulated. The infants classes as well as the visitors were delighted by the petting zoo and the coffee van ensured our St Martha's hospitality was on show. If you know of anyone who is looking for a school for 2025 but missed open day and is keen for a school tour, please ask them to contact the school office. Applications for 2025 should be lodged through Compass by April 5 2024.
All students in Year 5 must enrol for Year 7 now if they will be attending a Sydney Catholic School in 2026. Please ensure that you have chosen a high school and applied before the deadline. St Vincent's College at Ashfield and Domremy College at Fivedock are our main feeder schools.
All parents are reminded to observe all road rules, particlarly around our crossings. Safety of all students is most important and we need everyone to think first about the safety of the students. Please only stop where it is safe to drop and pick up children. There are plenty of places to stop safely and a short walk does everyone good. I received an email from a parent who had observed another parent who left a small child in a locked car while they went to pick up their child. Please be aware that leaving children in a locked car is not safe.
Peace and Best Wishes
