Student Achievements

Netball Victoria State Titles

Over the Labour Day long weekend, Zekiya Glibanovic and Chloe Van den Dolder competed in the Netball Victorian State Titles in Bendigo, representing the Latrobe Valley region in the U15's age division. The girls were great competitors over the weekend, playing an initial 17 round robin matches over three days and competing against talent from across the state. Well done girls.

Domestic Basketball Grand Final Results

Recently, a number of our students competed in their domestic basketball Grand Final and came out victorious with the U18 boys (Connor Palmer, Paul Gatpan, Brody Young, Owen Harrington, Bodie Wendt and Cooper Belsham), winning their Grand Final by 15 points. Congratulations to Paul Gatpan who received the MVP for the game, scoring 15 points and showing outstanding defense.

Congratulations to the U16 girls, Riley Donelly, Lexie Jackson and Marah Xerri, for winning their Grand Final by a whopping 40 points, with Riley Donelly receiving MVP for her great performance. Congratulations also to Lexie Jackson who participated in two Grand Finals, winning both of them, and receiving MVP for her Women’s A Grade Final.

Congratulations to all who participated.

Basketball Junior Country Championships

Last weekend, some of our students competed in the Victoria Junior Country Championships for basketball. Both U16's Moe teams competed in division 3 & 4 with the girls losing their nail-biting quarter final against Horsham by only 1 point. Winning two of their three round games on Saturday, the U16 boys won their division 3 quarter final against a competitive Pakenham, but unfortunately lost their semifinal against Melton. It was a great effort from all involved, well done everyone!

On the same weekend, the U18 Moe girls and boys competed at the Junior Country Championships in Bendigo with the girls competing in division 3 & 4 and the boys competing in division 5. With the girls losing their division 4 quarter final against the talented Shepparton team by only 6 points, the boys were on a winning streak with four out of five wins, only to lose their semifinal against Wallan. A great effort, well done to everyone!

Gippsland Power Update

Eight of our students participated in the recent Gippsland Power RookieMe State Combine Testing to assess their fitness in front of AFL/W recruiters. We look forward to the season starting.

Sam's Mountain Biking

Sports Academy student Sam Jones recently competed in a Downhill Mountain Biking event in the highest division of the youth league and placed 26th out of 67 people. An outstanding effort from Sam and we wish him the best of luck for future events.

Gippsland Swimming

On Thursday the 14th of March, seven of our students competed in the Gippsland Swimming event held at the Sale Leisure Centre, with three of them returning home with medals. The students who received placing medals were Indy Reid (who received a 3rd place medal), Darcy Connell (who received three 2nd place medals) and Zane Poxon (who received a 1st place and three 3rd place medals). An amazing achievement from these swimmers.

Intermediate Basketball 3x3

A couple of weeks ago, students competed in the intermediate 3x3 basketball cup with Lowanna entering two boy's teams and one girls' team. All teams made the qualifying final with one of the boy's teams, including Sports Academy students Eli Sutherland, Ethan Wildblood and Keller Holmes, advancing to the semifinal. In a tight final, the boys fought for the win and made the Grand Final but unfortunately came just short of victory. An amazing effort from all teams and congratulations to the three boys.

Junior School Cricket

On the 7th of March, two of our teams competed in the Junior School Cricket with the Year 7 team winning their first game but losing overall to a talented Marist Sion College. The Year 8 boys were undefeated, playing a total of three games. Well done to everyone, and we wish the Year 8 team the best of luck in the next round later this year.

Intermediate and Senior Volleyball

Four teams from Lowanna College competed in the first round of volleyball with all teams having a successful day and making it to the Grand Final in their age group. With the Senior Boys and the Intermediate Girls both losing their final against Drouin, the Senior Girls and Intermediate Boys won their finals and have advanced to the next round! We wish them the best of luck in the next round.
