Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

Harmony Week Celebrations

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

This week at HPS, there were many activities and discussions that explored what diversity is, ways people can be different from each other, what things make us the same as well as

what harmony means and examples of harmony in nature/in the world.

Our SAC program also joined in the celebrations, providing some wonderful opportunities for students to engage with Harmony Week arts and craft. How fabulous to see all the teamwork, learning and respect this week has encouraged!

The colour orange flooded our usual gold and blue attire on Friday as many people embraced the opportunity to wear a splash of orange to show support of Harmony Day.

Students and teachers enjoyed an incursion by 'Bollywood Rhythms', which was a colourful blend of Indian percussion and dance. Jamel Singh performed traditional Indian songs and dances and was accompanied by master tabla player Dheeraj Shrestha. The performance gave insight into Indian music, dance and culture. Dheeraj played percussive rhythms while Jamel performed and taught us some popular Bollywood dance moves. It was so much fun! Thank you Mrs Rochelle Pennefather for organising this fun and interactive event.

At assembly Friday afternoon we were treated to a special harmony week themed performance by the recorder ensemble , accompanied by some Year 5 friends who wrote lyrics to rap in place of the second verse of the Connor Price/ Benz song 'Spinnin', creating a unique HPS version of the song, 'Spinnin Harmony'. Well done to all involved in this performance. What amazing talent we have at our school!

Written especially for Harmony Week to the song, 'Spinnin' by Benz and Connor Price, below please find the lyrics by HPS.
