Grade 5 Report

Throughout the term, the Grade 5 children have been working on their science unit and learning all about the different states of matter - solids, liquids and gases, and how they change. Our experiments for this science unit kicked off with a slime-making extravaganza.

The students eagerly mixed and stirred, watching in amazement as their concoctions transformed into gooey, stretchy slime. Laughter filled the room as they squished and stretched their creations, surprised at the science behind the slimy fun.

To continue the learning, the students also participated in a science incursion, filled with exploration, through hands-on experiments using everyday household items. The focus for the day was looking at the various observable changes in properties when substances were mixed.

A crowd favourite was adding bicarbonate soda and vinegar to create a bubbling effect. Many of the other experiments allowed students to explore the reversible and irreversible changes in states such as changing colours, and temperatures.

Throughout the day,  Grade 5 didn't just watch – they asked questions, made predictions and discussed their findings. The room was abuzz with excitement and the students enjoyed the fun filled hands on exploration!

The Grade 5 students are all extremely excited to see what experiment is up next!
