Brentwood has done it again! Our swimming team are the Monash Division Champions for 2024! A HUGE congratulations to all our swimmers that represented Brentwood at the recent Monash Division Swimming Championships, at MSAC, in Albert Park.

Thank you to our younger swimmers filling older age group gaps in our team and these swimmers were very competitive and most won a ribbon. Thank you!

Brentwood returned to school with 3 shields; we won both the junior and intermediate age group shields, and the Overall Shield! Brentwood set four new Monash Division records and we have four swimmers awarded Age Champions for the meet!

Team Members:

Thank you to Mrs Burke, Ms Wrench Joseph, Mr Selimovic and Ms Bibby for officiating and looking after our team throughout the day.

Without these staff helpers the event would not run and your child/ren would not get the chance to compete and represent Brentwood SC.

All those swimmers who won their events have now qualified to represent Brentwood and the Monash Division at Eastern Metropolitan Region on Tuesday March 26.

The EMR competition will be held at Aquanation, in Ringwood.

We wish all swimmers the best of luck at this championship.

Wattle House wins House Athletics 2024!!

Congratulations to all students who competed at the House Athletics on March 13. We had a lovely Melbourne day; a cloudy sky with light showers scattered throughout the day. It was pleasing to see so many students compete and do their best and participate for a personal benefit and also for their house. Well done!

Congratulations to Wattle House dominating the day and winning the House Athletics Carnival! Well done!

Sport wrap up Term 1!

Brentwood students have again taken full advantage of the opportunities to be involved in sport during term 1. It has been pleasing to see students attend selection trials and training sessions to make it into a school team. Many students have also applied to be a student leader, within sport, as a student coach.

Getting involved in sport has many benefits for a student. Students can learn new skills, make new friends, develop rapport with staff members outside the classroom, improve their level of physical activity, builds confidence, teamwork, leadership, social skills, and improves their overall level of health.

Our whole school carnivals, swimming and athletics, had students bursting with energy to compete and earn points for their Houses. Jacaranda won the House Swimming sports and Wattle won the House Athletics sports. Well done!

Our Swimmers competed at Monash Division and won the Junior and Intermediate shields and our Brentwood swimmer’s are the current Monash Division Champions! Well done!

What’s on in term 2?

Student sign up is taking place in these final two weeks of term 1 for the sports on offer in term 2: AFL, Soccer, Netball & Badminton for students in year 7 to 12, and Hockey and Basketball for our seniors. If you forgot to sign up to express your interest in trying out for a team please see Miss Nash or Ms Swilks early next term.

Student Coach Applications are now open for the term 2 sports; AFL, Soccer, Netball & Badminton. These close on Wednesday March 27.

Cross Country is also happening in term 2. More information about selection trials will be available early next term - keep your eyes on the daily student bulletin and Sport Channels on Teams. All girls and the boys in 13, 14 & 15 age groups will be running the 3km event. Boys in the 16 and 17-20 age groups run 5km. If you are a keen runner, the holidays are a great time to start/continue training towards making the team!

Sport Uniform

We have had a large number of sports teams out this term and 98% of the students competing looked like a Brentwood athlete. We represent Brentwood SC; not Nike, not Adidas, and not the local sporting club. As it will get colder next term, please ensure your child is wearing the navy track pants, school rugby jumper, and school jacket. Leggings are not part of our sport uniform.

Thank you to the parents who support and enforce our sport uniform. I am proud of Brentwood and our uniform and I hope the students are too.

Parents, please label all uniform items – it can’t be returned to your child if there is no name on it!

Student Achievement

Jordan Gilbert

Jordan has recently just competed at the U20 Australian Championships in Canberra, and he won Gold in the 400m in a time of 47.33sec! Outstanding!

Julia Hipwell

Julia just recently qualified for the Little Athletics State Championships in four events.

Julia won gold in the 400m, and silver medals in the 100m, 200m and long jump at Regional Little Athletics! A fantastic achievement!

I know there are more students out there who are achieving great things in their outside sports. We would love to hear about your child’s super special milestones and achievements in their chosen sport/s.

A quick email is all that it takes : sports@ms.brentwood.vic.edu.au

Stay fit & healthy over the break and we can’t wait to see what we achieve with sport in term 2.

Brentwood School Sports

Brentwood competes in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) program. We are a successful school due to the commitment of students and staff to the program.

Staff volunteer their time to provide opportunities to the students to get involved.

Students can learn new skills, develop tactical thinking within a competitive environment, meet new friends, build rapport with staff outside the classroom, demonstrate leadership skills through student coaching, display good sportsmanship no matter what the outcome, and most of all students can grow as a person.

Brentwood look the part when we go out to compete. When we arrive at a competition, other schools know exactly who we are; as we arrive as a team and we look like a team. Students wear our sports uniform with pride.

We have a strict uniform policy. If you are part of a Brentwood team you look like a Brentwood student. We wear our sport uniform: Brentwood polo, Brentwood navy shorts, Brentwood navy track pants, Brentwood rugby jumper, Brentwood jacket, Brentwood hat, white socks, and appropriate footwear. We do not wear casual clothing or other teams clothing. We represent Brentwood.

We enter teams into all SSV competitions and compete within the Monash Division.

Our local competition come from Wheelers Hill Secondary College, South Oakleigh College, Wellington Secondary College and John Monash Science School.

Winning teams then progress to the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) round robin competitions, and successful teams from EMR compete at the SSV State Championships.

Communication is via the Compass portal. Consent and payment for events must be completed via compass. Consent must be finalized by 11.59pm two school days prior to the event/excursion. If a student does not have consent and payment is not complete before this time, they will not be permitted to attend. Unfortunately, some students do miss out.

We also like to celebrate student sporting achievement. We would love to hear about your child’s super special milestones and achievements in their chosen sport. A quick email is all that it takes : sports@ms.brentwood.vic.edu.au

I do hope that you encourage your child to try a new sport through the many opportunities at Brentwood to get involved. Even if they do not make a team, they have learnt new skills and developed abilities during the selection trials and trainings.

We also love to have supportive parents attend sporting events.

So feel free to come along and cheer on Brentwood throughout the year.

PE uniform reminders:

  • Years 7 – 9 may wear their PE uniform all day on days in which they have PE. This is made known to students by having GYM1, GYM2, GYM3 etc. for their “room” location. On days where students have Health, they are required to be in their academic uniform
  • Year 10 students may only wear PE uniform if they are completing either PE elective (Enhanced PE or Sports Science) on the days their teacher has selected for them to complete their practical classes for the week. Students will be given uniform pass cards from their teacher which will list what days these practical classes are on. Students are to carry these cards at all times. If a student is in PE uniform on a day that a practical class is not on or cannot present their card, then they will receive a uniform chronicle
  • Year 11 and 12 students are to change into and out of their PE uniforms for periods that they have a practical class. If students have PE in period 1 they are allowed to come to school in their PE uniform and will change at the end of this period. If students  have PE in period 5 they will need to change at lunch time and are permitted to leave school in their PE uniforms. If a year 11 or year 12 student comes to class in their PE uniform and they do not have a practical class in that period then they will receive a uniform chronicle
  • PE uniform items can be purchased here - https://www.psw.com.au/schools/brentwood-secondary-college.html?p=2
