The Northside Story Continued!
As you read about ticket sales for our Centenary Celebration Concert in this Issue of our Newsletter, it is worth remembering that major performances have played an important part in previous school celebrations too.
For our 80th anniversary in 2006, Northside Story was staged at Northcote Town Hall. Written and directed by teacher and former student Alex Madden, the production creatively explored the history of Northcote High and was described in the school history as a fitting climax to the 80th celebrations.
But the story didn’t finish there.
In 2007, Rhyme & Reason continued the tale, shifting the focus from the school’s past to “today’s youth and today’s thinking”. Around 150 students were involved, combining music, dance and drama to explore the ideas and experiences of young people.
The trilogy concluded in 2008 with North of the Southside. This final production tackled bigger questions about conflict, conformity, friendship and hope for the future. Looking back on all three productions, one student wrote that they had ultimately become stories of *hope* and of young people believing in their ability to make a difference.
Almost twenty years later, it is our turn again.
The Centenary Celebration Concert gives a new generation of students, staff and alumni the opportunity to come together through performance and celebrate the story of Northcote High.
So, after reading this little piece of our performance history, make sure you check out the Centenary Concert ticket information in this week’s Bulletin.
