Being Respectful in the Community

Dear Families,
We ask for your support in reminding students about the importance of respectful behaviour when travelling to and from school.
Students are visible members of our school community while in uniform and when moving through local streets, shops, public areas, playgrounds and public transport. We expect all students to demonstrate safe, respectful and considerate behaviour at all times, and we are confident that for the most part this is what our students are demonstrating.
However, we have recently had an increase in reports from our local community about unacceptable behaviour from students in NHS uniforms, ranging from poor language through to interfering with property and shoplifting. We take these reports seriously and want to ensure all students understand the importance of behaving respectfully and safely when they are in the community.
An important thing for students to understand is that behaviour does not need to be intended as intimidating to feel intimidating to others.
For example, groups of students being overly loud, using inappropriate language or behaving roughly near younger children and families can cause others to feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
We appreciate families reinforcing these expectations at home, including the importance of using respectful language, being mindful of others in the community, and making choices that reflect positively on themselves and the school.
Thank you for your support.
