From the Principal

As we pass the mid-point of Term 3, it has been wonderful to see students taking advantage of the many learning and extra-curricular opportunities available across the school. This is always a particularly busy part of the year, with camps, excursions, performances and events complementing the important work taking place in classrooms.
Our Year 10 Northern Territory trip is currently underway, with students and staff experiencing the landscapes, culture and history of Central Australia. We look forward to welcoming them back and hearing more about their experiences in the next newsletter.
It has also been a busy period for our Outdoor Education program. Our Year 11 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students recently attended camp at Rubicon Outdoor School, while our annual Ski Trip provided another fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, develop new skills and enjoy learning beyond the classroom. Thank you to the staff who give their time and energy to make these experiences possible for our students.
Our Year 12 students recently celebrated their much-anticipated Formal at the San Remo Ballroom. It was a fantastic evening and a wonderful opportunity for the cohort to come together and celebrate. Thank you to the student Formal Committee, our School Captains and Senior School staff for their work in making the event such a success. The Formal also signals an important point in the Year 12 calendar, as students now turn their attention firmly towards completing their studies and preparing for final assessments and examinations.
Our Music and Performing Arts students have been working tirelessly in preparation for next week's Centenary Concert. After attending several rehearsals, I can assure you this will be a spectacular evening. Through music, drama and storytelling, the concert celebrates the rich history of Northcote High School and the extraordinary contribution the performing arts have made to our community over the past 100 years. Tickets are still available, and I encourage all families, alumni and members of our community to join us for this unique Centenary event. You'll find ticket information elsewhere in this newsletter.
Families will have recently received an invitation via Compass to complete the 2026 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey. I encourage families to take the time to provide feedback. Your views are important to us and help inform our planning and priorities as we continue to improve the learning experience for our students.
Parent–Student–Teacher Conversations are also approaching, providing an important opportunity to discuss student progress, celebrate achievements and identify goals for the remainder of the year. We strongly encourage students to participate in these conversations and take an active role in reflecting on their learning. Please refer to the information in this newsletter and on Compass for booking details and arrangements.
Finally, our Friends of Northcote Committee is busy preparing for the upcoming Comedy Night. It promises to be another entertaining community event and a great opportunity for families to connect while supporting the school. I hope to see many of you there.
