Year 1

Term 3 Learning Celebration
What an exciting and busy Term 3 it has been for our Year 1 students! Throughout the term, students have worked hard, challenged themselves and developed new skills across English, Maths and Inquiry.
English – Informative Writing
In English, students have been learning how to write informative texts about animals. They explored the purpose and structure of an informative text, including how to introduce a topic, organise facts and provide interesting information for their readers. Students have enjoyed researching and sharing facts about Dingoes while developing their ability to write clear and informative sentences.
Maths – Shapes, Sharing and Grouping
In Maths, students have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes and discovering where different shapes can be found in the environment. They have been learning about the features and properties of shapes and investigating whether different 3D objects can roll, stack or slide. Students have also been solving practical problems involving equal sharing and grouping. To support their thinking, they have been practising skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.
Inquiry – I am an Engineer
Our Inquiry topic, ‘I am an Engineer’, has been a highlight of Term 3! Students first investigated the properties of different materials before applying their knowledge to the design of rocket ships and astronaut suits. They considered which materials would be most useful and explained how their choices could help an astronaut travel safely to Mars. Students then brought their designs to life using recyclable materials, creating fantastic replicas of their rocket ships and astronaut suits. They worked incredibly hard in preparation for the Space Fair on Friday 11th September, where they proudly shared their learning and creations with their families. It was a fantastic celebration of creativity, problem-solving and teamwork — a very successful mission for our Year 1 astronauts and engineers!
