Assistant Principal's Report
As we close out Term 3, we certainly finished with a bang! There have been many exciting and enriching events and activities over the past two weeks!
The China Trip
Teri, Kat and Karen departed for China with 6 of our Year 6 students on Thursday of Week 9. We will hear all about their adventures and experiences visiting our sister school, going on the bullet train and many other amazing sites and activities after they return at the beginning of the school holiday break!
Hoop Time
On Wednesday 16th of September, 31 Year 3 and 4 students participated in the Hoop Time basketball program at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. One of the great things about the Hoop Time program is that it provides opportunities for students with all levels of experience (or no experience at all!) to have a go, learn new skills and practise working together in a team sport environment.
Year 1 Excursion to Scienceworks
The Year 1s have been busy, with their Space classroom expo and their excursion to Scienceworks. They participated in the Mission to Mars experience and other interactive exhibits which tied in perfectly with their “I am an Engineer” unit.
Year 5 Camp
In Week 9, our Year 5s headed off to Golden Valley Adventure Camp, it was fantastic to see a snapshot of their time at camp at the assembly on Monday this week. We were proud to see students really stepping out of their comfort zone and of the support the students gave each other as they challenged themselves in activities such as The Leap of Faith, Giant Swing, Zip Line, Hut Building and many more.
RUOK Day
The SVAT team organised several activities over the week for RUOK Day, presenting strategies for checking in with a friend at assembly, a colourful dress up day and we also had a staff morning tea. The simple steps anyone can take to support a friend are: 1) Ask R U OK? 2) Listen, 3) Make a plan- that may include reaching out to a trusted adult for help, 4) Check in and see how they are going.
Maths Olympiad
The final challenge for this year’s Maths Olympiad ran last week for our Years 5 and 6 team of aspiring mathematicians. This challenge allows students to hone their problem solving skills as they apply various mathematical skills to a variety of problems in competition with other schools. It is a fantastic opportunity for our students to put their amazing talents to the test while also working as a team. Well done to all involved, we can’t wait to see the competition results!
Hats
Although this week’s weather has been more winter-like, the UV level is certainly rising. All students must wear a sunsmart hat (wide brimmed, legionnaire or bucket style) when outside for recess and for activities such as year level sport and Physical Education classes from now until the end of April 2027.
Attendance Reminders
Please ensure you explain your child’s absences and enter any pre-arranged absences (such as extended family holidays) into Compass as soon as they are confirmed, students should always stay home when unwell but when well, should be at school. Where possible, interruptions to attendance for things like family holidays should be avoided or minimised (such as by utilising the school holiday break for as much of the travel as is possible). We do understand that unexpected or unavoidable circumstances occur, so we ask that you communicate those with us so we can best support you and your child.
Next Term
Our Term 4 begins with the Year 6 camp, on Day 1 of Week 1 (Monday the 5th of October). We will soon begin our transition program for the incoming Foundation students. If you have a younger sibling starting at BEPS in 2027 please check for communications about the transition program and if you have not yet enrolled your child, please contact the office ASAP. The transition program starts in Week 2 of Term 4.
The Year 2 Day Camp and the Year 3 Camp are also taking place in Week 3. The Year 4 camp is later on, in Week 6. Before we know it, our Year 6 students will be commencing their secondary school transitions and celebrating their graduation!
A reminder to please ensure your child is bringing their own cutlery for their lunch. We are no longer in a position to continue supplying single use utensils.
