EREA National Football Tournament

The St Virgil’s College Soccer (Football) program aims to provide players with excellent playing opportunities that enhance their soccer experiences and reinforce school spirit and the holistic education provided to all students. This year's EREA National Football Tournament provided just that for our students.

The tournament was played at the iconic and picturesque St Joseph's Nudgee College in Brisbane. Team sVc finished top of their pool in both the Year 8 and Year 9/10 rosters with some dominant performances in the pool games over the first two days of competition.

Year 8 Pool Games

sVc 2 - 0 St Edmund's College

sVc 2 - 1 St Laurence's College

sVc 2 - 0 St Joseph's Nudgee College

sVc 0 - 2 St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace

Year 9/10 Pool Games

sVc 4 - 0 St Joseph's Nudgee College

sVc 10 - 0 St Edmund's College

sVc 2 - 0 St James College

sVc 6 - 0 St Patrick's College

On finals day, both teams gave their all and had the respect and admiration of their opposition. Congratulations to the Year 8 team for making it to the Grand Final, where they were ultimately outclassed by a slick outfit from Rostrevor College in Adelaide, aligned with the Manchester City Academy program. Unfortunately, the Year 9/10 team saved their worst performance of the tournament for last, bowing out in their QF to St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace. A semi-final appearance would have been just a reward for the outstanding play and teamwork displayed during the pool games.

Year 8 Finals

QF: sVc 4 - 3 St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace

SF: sVc 3 - 1 St Laurence's College

GF: sVc 2 - 5 Rostrevor College

Year 9/10 Finals

QF: sVc 0 - 2 St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace

All 32 students and staff should be proud of the way they represented our College and community, both on and off the soccer pitch. Visits to Aqua Warrior Park, Top Golf, Southbank, Westfield Chermside, and some retail therapy at the DFO rounded out another hugely successful EREA Football Tour for the College.

Team sVc was in the spotlight again over the recent holiday break when it teamed up with St Mary's College to enter two teams in the Tasmanian Teams Racing State Sailing Championships, hosted by the Sandy Bay Sailing Club. Well done to all our students and thank you to our dedicated volunteer and parent/carer support crew.

All rosters and ladders can be found on the SATIS website.

State Team selections continue for student athletes at sVc.

Congratulations to the following:

Both Eli and Charlie have shown a lot of hard work and dedication to their chosen sports. On behalf of the College community, we wish them the best of luck representing the state.
