Greening Our City

The Committee for Perth, of which ASC / TSS is a member, is keen to support the recently-announced WA Government Perth and Peel Greening Strategy. This Strategy represents a great opportunity for those interested to engage about climate resilience - an important issue for Perth’s future. Led by the WA Planning Commission (WAPC), the Perth and Peel Greening Strategy is intended to identify initiatives which will promote and enhance tree canopy and green spaces across the global Perth region. The WA Government says it will “provide direction for making Perth and Peel greener, cooler and more climate resilient and to set a strategic framework to integrate and encourage urban greening initiatives across all areas of Government”. It is expected to be finalised by the end of this year. Click here to find more information about this opportunity.

The WAPC is keen for as many of us (as private citizens) as possible to answer a survey at https://form.jotform.com/240349066160048 by 7 June 2024.

Music Big Day In

On Monday 15 April, our Music students participated in a Music Big Day In, immersing themselves in a day filled with musical exploration. Distinguished presenters, including the likes of Helen Shanahan, renowned for her soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Dr Ashley Smith, esteemed Chair of the Woodwind Performance Program at UWA, and Dr Gaby Gunders, a virtuoso pianist and expert in performance anxiety, led workshops tailored to inspire and educate.

Adding to the excitement of the day was the presence of the talented Grace Barbé. Not only a celebrated singer, songwriter and bass player for The Cat Empire, Grace is also an ARIA nominated and WAM award-winning artist, taking out 11 consecutive aria awards for ‘Best World Act’. Her workshop and live performance were unforgettable highlights, providing our students with first-hand insights into the world of professional music.

Overall, the Music Big Day In proved to be a great opportunity for our students to engage with industry specialists, broaden their musical experiences, and ignite their passion for music.
