Ms Deb Haddow

Main focuses:

*SUNSMART—From September until May----so no hats are required for outdoors again now until September.

*CHILD SAFE Lanyards for classrooms. All visitors to our school are required to sign in and have lanyards when they are on site. We have made lanyards for our classrooms for students to wear when they are out of class.

*REAL SCHOOLS-As part of our engagement with REAL SCHOOLS teachers are using affective statements to connect students with how their behaviour if ‘affecting’ or impacting self or others. It helps us to specify the behaviour the student is exhibiting to encourage or discourage that behaviours. This method also maintains or improves the relationship between the teacher and the student.

For example,  I feel hurt when I hear people speak unkindly to each other.

*Student Support Meetings—we work closely with lots of families each week to help to keep their child feeling supported at school. The meetings vary in frequency according to the degree of supports a student may require.

*Attendance and Behaviour Data is reviewed regularly and followed up.

*Bella continues to do her wonderful work at school in the yard, helping students get into classrooms, storytime and during Art sessions.

*continue to provide a room for our private practitioners to work from--- Katy Watkins  (speech), Meaghan Morley (psychologist/counsellor). For details on connecting with them just contact Mrs Luana Lane.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club runs for 3 mornings a week over near the gym area. It is staffed by some of our Education Support staff. We firmly believe that students need to have a good breakfast to be regulated and focussed int e classroom. We are always looking for more volunteers so if you think you could help from 8.25am please just contact Naomi Mc Master at school. We offer fruit , milk and toast. We are aware of allergies alerted on student files. It is a ‘grab and go’ set up so we can cater for lots of students to have a healthy snack before class.

Fruit bowls are a huge success in the classroom. We have more than tripled our weekly fruit order this term. It’s great to see so many students enjoying the fruit.

Speech Therapist and Psychologist

We have 2 private practitioners who work out of our school one day a week- a speech therapist (Katie Watkins) and a psychologist (Meaghan Morley). We understand how difficult it is to get students to appointments out of school hours, and the long waiting lists people face. Thus, we feel very fortunate that we are able to offer you these services. There are further details in the newsletter. If you would like more information, please speak with Luana Lane in the Student Support Office.
