Primary Inter-House Cross Country

Acting Head of Primary, Mr Glyn Teape

Chapel

Chapel services have recommenced for Term 2 for the Primary students over the last three weeks. The students should feel very proud of the way they have conducted themselves in Chapel. Chaplain Justine, along with Mrs Rogers and the class teachers, have been working very hard this year on supporting the students to learn how to enter a Chapel silently, leave silently and display respect throughout a service. As always, the students have loved singing along to the many songs that Chaplain Justine and Miss Shwe play.

Uniform

A big thank you to the students and families for their ongoing support of our Uniform Policy. At John Wollaston Anglican Community School, we instil in our students about taking great pride in the School they belong to. This always starts with our uniform. Primary Leadership, teaching staff and Education Assistants have observed all students wearing their uniform well. All class teachers, along with Mrs Cuming and Mrs Zecca, will be conducting Uniform Inspections over the coming period. We encourage you to read the Uniform Policy to ensure your child is adhering to the Policy, particularly in regards to jewellery, hair and earrings.

Primary School Events

Year 6 PYP Exhibition

Last Tuesday evening we held our Year 6 Exhibition Parent Information Session. During Terms 2 and 3 our Year 6 students will be delving deep into a local and/or global issue as part of their Exhibition work. This forms a special part of the final year of Primary School for our Year 6 students and we look forward to seeing the culmination of all the students’ work towards the end of Term 3.

Playgroup

A big thank you to Ms Amy Baker for leading the way with Playgroup this term. We have had two sessions running on a Wednesday morning, with parents, carers and grandparents having so much fun with their little ones.

Cross Country and ELC Mother’s Day event

Congratulations to all ELC and Primary students for their effort today in running the Cross Country course. There were many examples of resilience shown by the students. A big thank you to both Miss Fowler and Miss Ellis for their leadership and organisation of this event. It was also wonderful to have many of the M.A.G.I.C (Mothers, Aunts, Grandmas, Important Carers) people in our ELC students’ life stay after the Cross Country and spend some quality time with them. Thanks to Mrs Melissa Cuming and the ELC Staff for their leadership and organisation of this event.

Primary Coffee Morning

On Tuesday morning, a group of parents (along with Miss Slattery and I!) were treated to a delicious breakfast and coffee served by the Year 11 and 12 Hospitality students. We all enjoyed having a chat about all things school and it was a wonderful opportunity for some of our newer parents and carers to meet fellow parents in our community. A big thank you to Mrs Lisa Bissell for helping organise and lead the students in making and serving the food and coffees. We look forward to our next Primary Parent Coffee Morning next term.

City of Armadale Art Installation

On Monday, Ms de La Motte, along with Mrs Stevens, took 20 Year 5 students into the City of Armadale to participate in the Armadale Arts Bush Trail. Ms de La Motte and the students were given the task of creating a Land Art piece. From all reports the Art looks fantastic and the students represented our school so well. A big thank you to Ms De La Motte for her leadership and organisation of this and well done to all the Year 5 students involved! If you would like to look at our school’s contribution to this, please visit the Armadale Environmental Art Centre anytime between Saturday 11 May – Sunday 19 May, 10:00am – 2:00pm.

Staff Matters

We have welcomed Chloe Adams back to school this term, upon her return from Parental Leave. Chloe has enjoyed getting to know the students in her Wombat class. We thank Adele Kuan for her time at the school and we wish her all the best on her travels.

Miss Daisy Ellis left us today to go on Parental Leave. We wish her and her family all the best for the safe arrival of their baby. We welcome Miss Carly Williamson to the school who will take on the Sports Coordinator role, along with the teaching of Physical Education for many of the classes. We know that families and students will make her feel welcome.

Until next time, take care,
