Assistant Principal's Message

Mrs Rochelle Borg

Welcome Back!

It has been wonderful to welcome students and parents back for Term 2. I hope everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful weather we were blessed with throughout the holidays. Our break certainly provided us all with an opportunity to spend precious time with our families.

Term 2 Curriculum Overviews

To continue to build a partnership between home and school, all parents and caregivers will receive a term two Curriculum Overview this Friday, outlining the learning focus of each key learning area and exciting events your child will be engaged in throughout the term.

Our StMM’s Curriculum Overviews are a useful reference to keep somewhere prominent so that you can refer to it with your child and discuss the specifics of their learning throughout the term.

Winter School Uniform

Thank you to our families for ensuring our students come to school everyday wearing their school uniform. The wearing of our school uniform plays an important role in instilling pride in our students and maintaining our school identity and spirit.

Effective Monday 13th May (week three) all students are to wear their full winter school uniform.  School hats must be worn all year round.

Due to a few changes within our school timetable, our sport uniform days for students has changed. Please see our new sport uniform and library borrowing days for each grade in our Important Information section of this week’s newsletter.

Please ensure all jumpers, jackets, hats and other school uniform items are clearly labelled to ensure your child is able to easily identify their items.

Compass - our Parent Communication Portal

It is extremely important for all parents to be able to access the Compass Parent Portal to ensure you are kept up to date with what is happening at St Margaret Mary’s.

Using the Compass Parent Portal you will be able to:

- be informed of important updates, events and reminders

- review your child’s attendance

- provide explanations for periods of absence

- update your contact details

- access and sign excursion,  incursion and special event notes for your child

- access your child’s School Reports and book parent/teacher interviews

In the coming week, all families who have not yet logged into their Compass account will receive an email with a link to the Compass account. If you have any questions or need assistance with accessing the Compass Parent Portal, please contact the school office for assistance.

St Margaret Mary’s Pillar and Principal Awards:

During our assembly on Friday morning we will begin to present our weekly Pillar Awards. Students who are displaying our core values and striving to achieve their personal best are acknowledged by receiving one of our StMM’s Pillar Awards.

In addition to our Pillar Awards, students at St Margaret Mary’s have the opportunity to be awarded with our prestigious Principal’s Award. At St Margaret Mary’s our Principal Award is presented to students who have consistently demonstrated our school motto of “Love the Truth” by listening, sharing, and acting on the Word of God within all aspects of our school community. Each term, class teachers and specialist teachers will nominate one student who meets the criteria to be awarded with a Principal’s Award and attend the end of term Principal's morning tea.

Principal Awards will be presented to students at our last Monday morning assembly at the end of each term. Parents will be notified if child will be receiving a Principal’s award prior to our assembly.

Wet Weather Dismissal

As the weather is becoming cooler and we are heading into the winter season we have decided to implement a Wet Weather Dismissal procedure to ensure our students and families can be picked up safely.

During wet weather dismissal, car pick up, bus/walkers and OOSH will operate as per our normal procedures.

Parent Pick Up will be altered slightly to ensure the students who are waiting for their parents or caregivers are dry and safe. During wet weather K-2 students will be picked up from the Infants COLA area and our Year 3-6 students will be picked up from the hall. Parents will be notified via a Compass alert if wet weather dismissal has been determined.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to a fabulous term ahead.

God Bless

Rochelle Borg
