We have had a busy and exciting start back this term. Chemical sciences is our overall unit for this term, and that includes lots of work with Cooking Chemistry! Our first two classes were Year 3s and Year 5s who made ANZAC Cookies, no-churn ice cream and explore toasty toppings for reversible and irreversible changes. The students were very excited and everyone participated, even if the food was not to their tastes. We were also able to include conversations about what to do if you do not want to try something and what to do if you have tried something and don’t like it (handy if you’re ever at a friend’s house!).

The Year 1s have been looking at fabrics and clothes from around the world and those that are seasonally appropriate, as well as toys and the materials those are made out of. The Year 2s have been exploring building materials, and the types of shelters that are appropriate for different places in the world. They finished their unit by building their own little towns in teams with our Little Builders sets.

Foundation students have been exploring how to make observations by learning all about different descriptive language as well as how to make good predictions and perform experiments.

The Year 6 students have done a lot of learning about strange forms of matter, creating oobleck from non-Newtonian fluids and playdough when exploring amorphous solids.

A great start to the term with lots more exciting chemistry to come! Looking forward to cooking with Foundation, Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6 next week.
