Deadly Day Out
Members of the Indigenous student body, the Deadly Group, embarked on a journey to Northbridge for our first Deadly Day Out of 2024. We headed to Boorla Bardip to experience 'To the Moon,' an engaging exhibition that explored humanity's timeless fascination with our celestial neighbour. This multifaceted display intertwined lunar-themed art, elements of pop culture, insights from planetary science, historical perspectives, and the profound viewpoints of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Also at Boorla Bardip, we also had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the artistry of Shane Pickett through his exhibition 'Meeyakba - Six Seasons.' Pickett's work offered a profound exploration of the seasonal rhythms and cultural richness of the land, providing a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives and connections to the natural world. The students were treated to some gelato of their choice from Chicho Gelato in Northbridge. A deadly day was had by all.
Chloe Sanderson-Farrell's Advocacy Presentation
Chloe Sanderson-Farrell (Year 12) from The Studio School visited All Saints' College on Thursday 9 May to discuss her passion for advocacy and her role in organising the recent Women's Domestic Violence Rally for WA. Chloe spoke to Year 8 students about her impressive accomplishments in the advocacy space, and discussed with students issues they are passionate about changing in the world, from climate change to ways to reduce litter.
French Film Night
On Friday 10 May, the All Saints' College Language Department, in collaboration with the Parents & Friends' Association and Alliance Française de Perth presented Djaaliny: French Film Night. Guests enjoyed wine and cheese tastings, a melodious performance by the talented ASC jazz band, and a live painting demonstration by a talented French artist. The highlight of the evening was the screening of the acclaimed film La Vie en Rose, which explores the captivating life of French singer Edith Piaf. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this evening magical!
ASC Welcomed Writer Rebecca Higgie
We were delighted to host the renowned author Rebecca Higgie at All Saints' College as our 2024 Writer-in-Residence, where she conducted captivating creative writing workshops for our students. Throughout the sessions, students immersed themselves in compelling historical materials to craft vivid historical fiction narratives. Rebecca helped students discover the intricate interplay between settings and storytelling, and even experimented with blending historical fiction with elements of fantasy.
The week culminated in Rebecca joining us at the Epilogue Launch, leaving everyone inspired and enriched by her expertise and dedication to the craft of writing. A heartfelt thank you to Rebecca for igniting our students' passion for writing!
Unveiling Imagination at Epilogue
Last week, the English Department invited contributors, family members, students and staff from both ASC and TSS to attend the launch of our creative writing magazine, Epilogue. Epilogue, an annual publication, showcases the talents of students from Year 7 to 12. It features a wonderful array of student-authored poems and prose alongside visually stunning artworks.
The launch, held in Nexus-S, was a lovely event. Attendees were treated to refreshments before hearing a short address by the 2024 ASC Writer-in-Residence, Rebecca Higgie. This was followed by the highlight of the evening – readings by some of the student contributors.
Acting Head of English, Mrs Natasha Saunders, and Epilogue Editor, Rev. Liz, both shared how proud they were of all the students involved – writers, artists, and student editors.
The magazine is available in digital format below and printed copies have been made for students involved.
We can’t wait to see the spirit of artistic expression continuing to thrive at ASC and TSS - bring on next year’s Epilogue!
