Senior Boys Football Team Defeat Victory Lutheran College in Wodonga - Finish 1-1 at Upper Hume Carnival

Our Senior Boys got the chance to pull on the hallowed W.H.S AFL Football Jumper on Wednesday 17th April, continuing a 100+ year tradition.

Taking part in the Upper Hume Carnival at Martin Park in Wodonga the side, thanks to a very strong cohort of Year 11s, finished Runner-Up in their pool, with a respectable 1-1 record for the day.

They got off to a flyer against Victory Lutheran College Wodonga, winning comfortably 49-30. Year 11 Ryley Downing in the forward pocket was reportedly dominant - he kicked 4 goals but could have finished with 7. Others named as influential were Centre Half Back Tom Ford of Year 11, Back Flanker Hayden Currie also of Year 11, the midfield squadron of skipper Lachlan Barbour (Year 12) and Year 11s Luke Griffiths & Lachlan Suffield, as well as Year 11 Wirra Gilson on the wing.

The second match was a different story, with opponents Catholic College Wodonga too strong, handing us a 12-90 defeat. Catholic College, a juggernaut with over 1200 students who often win the football carnivals, were the eventual champions on the day. Our boys to their credit, got 2 goals against them, which is more than their Grand Final opponents managed.

Thank you to all of our players for representing the school. Thanks to our Leadership Group, Year 12s Lachlan Barbour (Captain) and his Vice Captains in Wil Carmody, Brando Harrison & Cope Swinburne, who have all given the school great service over their 6 years.

Big thank you to teacher Alex Johnson for coaching, and the many helpers, especially Year 8s Clarence Lampa & Will Sayers as Boundary Umpires (Clarence actually chimed in as a Central Umpire at one stage), and injured Year 11 Ned O'Kane as Assistant Coach.
