Senior School Excursion: Immigration Museum

Year 5 & 6 Excursion to Melbourne Immigration Museum

On the 29th of April, all Year 5 and 6 students visited the Melbourne Immigration Museum as part of their immersion into our Term Two Topic unit: Geography. This term we are focusing on factors that shape and influence different locations around the world, including migration.

We boarded the train at Elsternwick station and headed towards Flinders Street Station. When we arrived at the museum, we were greeted by our very helpful tour guides who educated us on the history of migration. We learned that people have migrated to Melbourne from over 200 countries. We also learned that if you wanted to migrate to Australia you had to pass a challenging dictation test. Most of the students tried the test ourselves and we all felt that it was insanely impossible!

Overall, we really enjoyed the excursion. Some students even loved the experience so much that when we returned to school, they brought in some artefacts of their own to tell us about their migration experiences.

We would like to thank all of the parent volunteers, teachers and LSOs who joined us on the day to help ensure we had a wonderful experience.
