Can help you when you need:
- another staff member for a short time
- you have a staff member from your team away and need help with breaks
- can ask questions, especially for new staff.
I have been keeping track of how teams are going with these tasks. Well done to those teams working together to complete these tasks promptly.
Playground Supervision Protocols
- Staff are on time for yard duty.
- Staff complete Yard Duty when the 1:1 student they are supervising is absent.
- When a staff member who has 1:1 supervision with a student is absent, this Y/D is given to another staff member. It may be a staff member from the same or a different classroom. It is the responsibility of the PSSL to problem solve and communicate this during the morning check in. If the PSSL is absent, the leader completing the check in will complete this.
- When a staff member is absent from a classroom team, the team can talk about how to manage their breaks at 8:45-9am. When the PSSL arrives for check in, the team can communicate this to PSSL who can approve or offer another suggestion for breaks.
- Students requiring 1:1 supervision must have a physical hand over. Staff leave the playground once a hand over with another staff member at the beginning and end of the playground time has taken place. These students cannot be left without 1:1 supervision outside for any amount of time. Staff collecting a student at the end of a playground session need to be on time.
- Staff who are not 1:1 supervising move around the playground supervising students, and check in all areas, especially behind the shed, the gate area near the front entrance of the school and behind bushes.
- Staff need to be actively standing and walking to supervise and engage students.
- Yard duty is not a time to look at phones unless it is to read JSA texts as they come in.
- Yard Duty is not a time to stand and chat with others.
- For a classroom team to request 1:1 support for a student, a team must give PSSL at least 2 weeks of ABC data. The discussion about what type of support could be put in place can take place during a classroom team meeting
