Word Study/Maths

This term, we will continue on with the Sounds-Write program, which is a synthetic phonics approach to the teaching of Reading. We will be teaching students that sounds can be represented by one letter. In addition to the sounds taught last term, this term we will introduce  /b/, /c/, /g/, /h/, /d/, /e/, /v/, /f/, /k/, /l/, /r/, /u/. We will be building, spelling and reading words using these sounds.

We have also started to learn high frequency words, such as ‘my’, ‘we', 'said', 'see'. These are the words that will appear most in their take home books. This will help our students when they are reading and writing. Words Lists with our high frequency words are sent home in your child's book bag. Before you begin reading you can read the word lists to help your                              child build their knowledge and confidence.

In Mathematics, we celebrate the number of days we have been at school by completing a range of Mathematics activities such as crossing out the day on the Calendar and counting on a Hundreds chart. On the Hundredth day of school we will have a dress up celebration! More information to come closer to the date!

Last Term we began a program called EMP (Explicit Mathematics Program) and this term we are pleased to say we are continuing it! This program explicitly teaches the foundational Mathematics concepts such as counting, ordinal numbers, more and less, subitising and more! The students have been using their whiteboards to practise their amazing number formation!
