🌿 CBL

Our Big Idea this term is Country.

Essential Question:

What can we learn and take forward from First Nations people, history and culture?

Guiding questions

What does Country mean to Aboriginal people?

What happened when Aboriginal people lost much of their connection to Country (land, culture and language)?

Why is it important to respect, understand and learn about all cultures, and continue our reconciliation journey?

📚 Literacy

This term we have a strong focus on spelling, vocabulary and grammar. We are revising long and short vowel sounds, building from foundation up to extension words.

In Reading, we will be using mentor texts to explicitly teach and model fluency and authors purpose.

At home you might like to:  record your child reading and provide opportunities to improve pace, phrasing and expression. When reading a text together, you could talk about the authors purpose and whether they are trying to persuade, inform or entertain the audience.

During Writing sessions, students have been encouraged to use nouns and verbs to develop simple sentences into more complex ideas, with a focus on high impact vocabulary.

At home you might like to: Have a go at elevating simple sentences by including more interesting word choices.

🎲 Maths

We are exploring the vocabulary needed to solve worded addition problems. Through games, students are building fluency in simple addition number facts. We are investigating a range of counting and addition strategies to support mathematical reasoning and automatic recall.

At home you might like to: Ask your child to teach you the 'rock paper scissors' addition game. Use every day experiences such as cooking and shopping to immerse your child in tasks that require additive thinking.

SAKG

We are always needing volunteers for our Kitchen Garden Program. If you have completed the Child Safe module with Adele and have a current Working With Children's Check, please use this link provided by Dimi to sign up to volunteer.
