Principal Team's Report

Renee Cotterell, Scott McKinnon and Melanie Brown

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome back everyone! It has been lovely to reconnect with students over the previous fortnight and hear all about their school holiday adventures. It seems like everyone has come back rested and recharged, ready for a huge term of learning!

In Term 2, we have a lot going on. Some of the highlights coming up include:

  • whole school World of Maths Incursion
  • Year 5 Lyrebird Park Camp
  • Year 3 Forest Edge Camp
  • Year 1 & 2 swimming program
  • Year 6 Life Education program
  • Excursions for years Prep & 2
  • a number of sporting events, performance rehearsals and other celebrations

Please ensure you are checking Compass regularly for details of events coming up and speak to the office if there are any concerns regarding payments.

New Staff Welcome!

We extend a warm welcome to 2 new staff members at Pakenham Springs - Elley Kirkham and Charli Milner have both joined us as Learning Support Assistants and have settled in beautifully. We are so pleased that they have joined our PSPS family!

ANZAC Day

Yesterday, we recognised the many Servicemen and women who have given their lives in military operations, fighting for the rights and freedoms we have in Australia today. We are incredibly grateful to live in such a peaceful country, where we are free to express our views and participate in a democratic society.

We thank our Year 5 students for representing PSPS at the Schools ANZAC Service at the Shrine of Remembrance on Friday 19th April, and our School Captains along with the other students and families who attended the Pakenham Dawn Service

 to pay their respects.

Lest We Forget.

Future Prep Enrolments

We have recently sent home a notice asking for you to inform us if you have another child joining us in Prep for 2025. We would like to be able to confirm our sibling enrolment numbers as soon as possible, so please let us know if this is the case. Our Prep enrolment processes will begin shortly, with our Enrolment Information Evening being held on Monday 27th May.

Solving Problems in the Yard

Quite often we hear from families that their child has reported an issue to the Yard Duty teacher and, in the perception of the child, 'nothing was done'.  With minor incidents and disagreements, we encourage all students to use the 5 Finger Plan (see picture below).

This encourages students to work through a number of strategies for solving problems in a calm and positive manner.  Students are reminded to always skip straight to 'Ask a teacher for help and support' if it is an issue involving intentional physical contact or other more serious incidents.  We thank you for your support in assisting us in teaching our students how to solve problems in a positive way.

Facilities Update

Big things are happening at The Springs!  In the coming weeks, you will see that we are having a large fence erected around the perimeter of our entire school.  With the amount of vandalism over weekends and also in the interests of student safety, our School Council approved this work to be done.  This will mean some changes to the ways we enter and exit the school, however further details about that will be communicated shortly.

Supervision before school

Students are not to arrive at school until 8:30 am on school mornings.  Staff do not begin their workday until this time, and there is insufficient supervision available in the mornings.  Any student arriving before 8:30 am will be asked to sit at the office and wait. We ask for your support in this matter.  Likewise, under no circumstances are students allowed to leave the school grounds in the morning and go across to the shops.  Not only is this incredibly unsafe, with them crossing the busy Heritage BLVD road unsupervised, but a small number of students are also coming back having purchased items inappropriate for the school day.  Please contact OSHClub if you need to organise care and supervision for your child/ren outside of 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.
