Miners Rest Primary School Student Leadership Program

Our student leadership profile consists of School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains, STEM Captains, Performing Arts Captains, Visual Arts Captains, Library/Office Captains, a Koorie Captain, and a Junior School Council.

Throughout 2023, students have been developing their leadership skills through termly leadership sessions. This includes sessions at school with the school's leadership team, where they identify their own strengths and acknowledge each other. They have also attended two leadership conferences. One was held locally in Ballarat, which focused on developing actions as a leader. Key takeaways included the concepts that 'leadership is what you do when no one is looking' and that 'small everyday actions, lead to change.' Additionally, students attended a conference in Melbourne to build strategies to support the development of leading with confidence and increasing their skillset to speak up and lead their peers.

This year, our student leaders have contributed to our school community by supporting their peers with lunchtime activities, organising and leading whole-school events, promoting our school and our school values, and actively seeking feedback from their peers to implement school improvement.

Our active student leadership team has been busy reviewing the roles and responsibilities for each leadership position and providing input to make adjustments to the current student leadership process, in order to support our current Year 5 students as they begin to develop their leadership applications.

We are very proud of our 2023 student leadership team and we look forward to seeing the impact they will continue to have throughout Term 4.
