Academic Awards Presentation Evening

It is always a privilege to acknowledge students when they do well in any aspect of their school life. With our focus on inclusivity, St Bede’s College seeks to recognise achievement in many different forms, from Music to Sport, Performing to Public Speaking. As a College Community, we are proud of their efforts and seek to recognise it publicly in many different ways.

In celebration of academic achievement across the school in 2023, the Academic Awards Presentation Evening will take place on Tuesday 5 December. In the days preceding the evening, each year level will have their subject awards presented at assemblies.

The evening celebration is a time to recognise students who have performed at the highest academic level and the Dux of Years 7 – 11 will also be presented. The Year 12 Dux will be presented once VCE Results are released.

We look forward to the celebration of our high academic achievers across the subjects as a fitting way to conclude the College year. Recipients of all awards will be published early next year and, in advance, we extend our congratulations to them all.

VCE Exams

The written Unit 3/4 VCE Exams commenced Tuesday 24 October. Each year, it is a rite of passage for our Year 12 VCE Students to undertake the exams in their subjects as the final stage of their studies prior to completion.

The manner in which our Year 12s - along with the Year 11s who accelerated in one subject - have engaged in the exams has been exemplary, giving themselves every opportunity to achieve their best possible result.

We are extremely proud of our Year 12s for how they have led the school over the course of this year. With results released on Monday 11 December, we wish them well through these final weeks and into the transition of the next stage of their lives.

Year 9 to 11 Exams

Our Years 9 to 11 students will conclude their studies for 2023 with exams that commence in the coming weeks. Teachers of individual subjects will be providing information in preparation for each exam, with students given guidance over the course of the year on how to prepare and how to develop their exam technique.

The exam periods will run for the following periods:

  • Year 11 Monday 13 November to Wednesday 22 November
  • Year 10  Friday 17 November to Wednesday 22 November
  • Year 9 Friday 17 November to Wednesday 22 November

Whilst some students have been given an opportunity to reschedule their exam if an absence is planned (or has a clash with another exam), any student who misses their exam due to unforeseen circumstances will not be allocated a time to re-sit the exam.

If accompanied by contact from parents via the usual absence avenues (email or phone), there is no penalty. Should the College not be notified of the absence, the student will receive a grade of zero.

Indonesian Language Visitors

As part of fostering the ideals of global citizenship in our students, we offer a range of experiences that complement their education at St Bede's College.

Recently, some of our Indonesian language teachers have participated in a series of workshops convened by the Asia Education Foundation via the University of Melbourne.

The program is called the BRIDGE program (Building Relationships through Intercultural Dialogue and Growing Engagement), where St Bede’s College is establishing a sister-school relationship with SMK Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo in East Java.

The next exciting stage of the BRIDGE program is welcoming two teachers from our sister-school to our College next week.  Your child may have the opportunity to interact with one of the visiting teachers, by attending a class in observation or participating in a workshop. They are encouraged to use their Indonesian language skills and engage positively with our visitors.

We look forward to bringing this cultural experience to our students studying Indonesian.

Flying Start

Flying Start constitutes the final two weeks of the College year for our current Year 7 to 11 students. In this time, students move up a year level and commence the learning program for the appropriate year.

These are compulsory College days with normal processes and procedures for attendance.

Flying Start will commence Monday 27 November and will conclude on Friday 8 December, where upon students will commence their summer holidays.
