Technology and

Applied Studies

Year 7

Tech Mandatory - Digital Technology

Students have been tasked with creating an obstacle course and then coding a small Tello Drone to fly through the course. Students have created their own design brief and have had to create a number of solutions to problems that have arisen during their design process. Once students have finished coding their obstacle course, they will take part in drone racing and develop their coding skills further by using Python as a programming language.

Tech Mandatory - AGFO

Students are currently in the process of finishing their Burger Boss project, which entails crafting their personalised interpretation of the classic cheeseburger. They've been engaged in extensive experimentation, exploring a wide array of ingredients and culinary methods in pursuit of the ultimate burger creation.

Year 8

Tech Mandatory

Students have been working hard to complete the final assessments tasks for the year. The Engineering unit has focused on the students ability to build a bridge out of Balsa Wood. Students completing the Mixed materials unit have been applying sewing skills to create Toy Monsters. Lastly students have been in the timber worksheet creating timber frames for the laser light project. This unit gave the students an opportunity to use a number of timber hand tools and learn new skills in the workshop.

Year 9

Timber

Students have been working hard to develop a small trinket box using the PRIME design process. In particular the students have learnt how to use CAD 3D Modelling techniques in Onshape software to develop detailed technical drawings of the Trinket Box project and specify all the features and dimensions of the project before working to produce the intricate timber joinery, assembly and finish. All of this is being documented in a project portfolio. Students have also been using the timber lathe to produce a timber handle for their next project.

Food

Students have been learning about special occasions and the various foods served for each occasion. Students assessment task was to create and make a birthday cake for a child. They have worked really hard across the semester to make some fantastic cakes. Other practicals have included mini quiches, cup cakes and sandwiches that were served as a morning tea.

Metal

Students have finished their BBQ projects and will be taking them home this week, we will now be focusing on finishing our spatulas and developing further practical skills with the MIG welder, the Metal Lathe, and using the design process to create practical projects using their metal working skills.

Agriculture

Year 9 agriculture students have been working towards their final assessment of the course. They have been busy doing revision for this exam which covers all topics from the year which includes; introduction to agriculture, sheep, vegetable and poultry production. When the class is not revising they are busy down at the ag plot helping the Year 10 students weigh the trial lambs and growing vegetables.

IST

Students have been learning the basics of HTML coding for building websites from scratch. They are developing their own website for a fictional company that will allow them to demonstrate a variety of coding skills. This includes the use of a Cascading Style Sheet to efficiently manage styles across their site.

Graphics

Animation is the topic for year 9 Graphics this term that has the students developing a short animated film. They have researched the 12 Principles of Animation and a teens social issue to create the storyline, developed a central character using sketching and Adobe Capture and sketched scenes for a storyboard by hand. They are now using the Adobe Animate software to create their animated film.

Hunger Games

Christmas around the world is the focus for this term. Students are cooking and researching customs and culinary delights. Students have teamed up and have submitted recipes to create from a range of countries across the globe which you would find at Christmas in those countries.

Timber

Timber are also getting close to finishing their final project. This year we have designed a new dartboard cabinet project which incorporates a panel door design. The class has worked great and learnt a number of new timber skills.

Food

The year 10 Term Three assessment of designing a muffin flavour to represent a chosen trend saw most students push themselves out of their comfort zone to create their own interesting flavour combinations. This term involves pulling together all they have learnt across the past two years to make an online tutorial for making a menu item. Practicals have included oreo mug cakes, walking nachos and cheeseburger tacos.

Agriculture

Year 10 Agriculture students have completed their end of year exam and are now running their intensive trials for term 4. One group is trialling barley grain milled at different consistencies to see what impact it is having on energy/protein digestion with six lambs. Another group is growing corn and tomatoes under hydroponic conditions to see if growth can be sped up. The students will run these trials for the remainder of the term and collate the results.

Metal

Students are finishing off the quick lift project. Tapping threads, sandblasting and spray painting are the focus points at the moment. Students have produced CAD drawings of some of the components which has enabled them to develop skills and knowledge outside of the practical workshop.

Design and Technology

The Students Individual project has been the primary  focus for this semester and this term see’s this project finish up. Students are bringing to creation both digitally or in models their solution to a self identified need or problem. The rest of the term is going to be used to recreate community games to be more efficient and suit 30 - 40 minutes recess and lunch breaks.

Year 12

Design and Technology

Year 12 Design and Technology students are midway through their case study of an emerging technology. Some interesting designs have been chosen to investigate with the knowledge they gain from case study helping students in the development of their own Major Design project.

 Agriculture

After completing preliminary exams, Year 11 Agriculture have begun Year 12 content. The class has started off learning more about soil in terms of chemical and physical properties. Practical lessons have included looking at how the soil type varies across the different areas of the ag plot and how this could affect management techniques.
