STEAM

Year 8 STEAM students have been building the ideal solar powered car. Students have uncovered multiple energy sources, their carbon footprint and discovered the future of solar and electric energy. They started the process of this challenge by creating a rolling car, where they were required to adjust multiple variables to improve the speed of their cars. Students then used their knowledge from this build to design the fastest solar powered car.  Circuit diagrams and the ideation process have been used to support their overall designs.Congratulations to the competition winners:

STEAM 456

Overall design and Fastest Solar Car: Indie Wallet and Samuel Pike

STEAM 123

Fastest Solar Car: Oliver Gailey and Martin Coyle

Overall design: Jackson Bright

Students will now engage in a series of Makerspace Challenges in different groups such as Shark Tank, Fun Park, The Magic Dome and Newspaper Challenges to further develop their STEAM transferable skills.

Transgrid Discovery Hub Challenge

‘The Transgrid Discovery Hub is a first of its kind for Transgrid. It will allow a consistent and accessible point of connection with community, landowners, and businesses in the Wagga and surrounding areas. The shopfront will allow visitors to engage with Transgrid in an inviting, engaging space and access information about our energy vision, major projects, operations, and community-based activities, contextualised around the vital role and opportunities for Wagga Wagga. Importantly, it will be a one-stop-shop for an integrated view of Transgrid’s activities within the region and to service all enquiries, implementing a ‘no wrong door’ approach.’ (Transgrid, 2023)

Congratulations to Ronejan Kassem, Bailey Helyar and William Wendt for creating an interactive digital Energy Game for the Transgrid Discover Hub Challenge. Students will have an opportunity to work with a game designer to bring their game to life. As winners of the competition, the group also received $5000 towards the development of technology at MDCC. We can’t wait to see their design on display in the Wagga Transgrid Discovery Hub.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI)

Generative Artificial Intelligence is growing exponentially in the digital space. Students will be upskilled over the next two weeks in regards to their level of understanding and knowledge about their responsibilities when it comes to using Gen AI, especially systems such as Chat GPT, Perplexity and DALL-E.

Parents have also received a consent form via Compass Events which includes information about the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence for students and how parents/guardians can support their children with the use of Gen AI. Parents are encouraged to provide consent via Compass as soon as possible and will also have the ability to attend an online session in the coming weeks.
