From the Head of Sport

Last weekend I had the opportunity to watch both the Boys' and Girls' Basketball at away venues. It is always interesting to see our students in a different environment. I am pleased to say that all the players were good ambassadors for BMGS, playing within the spirit of the game and when off the court encouraging the other BMGS teams who were playing.

This weekend we have the majority of our teams at home so I encourage the parents and friends of BMGS sport to come along and support our players.

Congratulations - Orienteering

Congratulations to Alton Freeman (Year 8) who, with the release of the 2023 National rankings, has been placed Number 1 in Australia in the 14s age group. This is an outstanding achievement and well deserved due to the commitment that Alton has made to his sport of Orienteering over many years.

Uniform

Just a reminder to all students that each sport has a set uniform which includes shorts. Unfortunately the shorts from winter sports are not interchangeable with the basketball shorts. If you have the incorrect shorts can you please arrange to purchase the correct ones prior to this weekend’s games.

Triathlon

The NSW All Schools Triathlon will be held at the start of Term 1, 2024. If you ride a bike, run or swim and are interested in putting in a team in the Junior, Intermediate or Senior division, please come and see me in the sports office.  I have placed a clipboard on the bench at my office. If you have a team, please list them on this. If you are an individual without a team, list the leg you would like to do.

BMGS Tennis – Round 1

On Saturday, 21st October, we began our second season of Tennis.

We welcome Laurits Leraand from Year 11 and Eligh Spees and Oliver Easton from Year 7 to the BMGS Tennis Team.

It was an early start as once again, we went to Orange and played against Kinross-Wolaroi School. It is a fast 4 set up, with a best of three sets. Each set is the first to win four games with a tie-break at 3-all. If the sets are one set apiece, there is another tie-break to decide the winner.

Our Odds Team (Neil, Alex, Jed, Hugo Hammon, Hugo Lewczak and Noah) were very competitive and were at nine sets all, awaiting the outcome of our final singles match. Congratulations to Neil who won both his Singles and Doubles with scores of 4-0, 4-0 in both matches. Congratulations to Hugo Hammon and Hugo Lewczak who won their singles matches. Noah had a good start but lost in the match tie break. Overall, the Odds team lost, with a final score of 11-9 (sets).

Our three new players (Laurits, Eligh and Oliver) mixed well with our three from last season (David, Otto and Raph) for our Evens Team. As this is an Open Competition, on occasions, students may be playing others who are older than they are, as was the case with Oliver and Eligh. In the Singles, we were achieved by David, continuing on his success from last year, Laurits playing long rallies and games to win in the match tiebreak, and Oliver who played competition tennis for the first time, winning 4-2, 4-2 in straight sets. Eligh’s match was close, made up of three tie-break sets, losing 7-5 in the final set. Overall, the Evens Team lost with a score of 13-9 (sets).

In Round 2, the Evens Team will be playing in Bathurst, whilst the Odds Team has a bye.
