Helping Hands and our NÜDEL KART

During Term 4, Helping Hands has been bringing out our NÜDEL KART on Mondays at recess and everyone is loving it!  It is so good to see our students use their amazing imagination to create all kinds of things! The NÜDEL KART will be located behind the Prep/Junior basketball courts and is open for anyone to use with Helping Hands overseeing and supporting fun safe play.

The Power of Cultural Humility

A few weeks ago, we had our Cultural Diversity Day, and whenever there is a celebration of diversity, I think of ‘cultural humility’.

Diversity and cultural inclusion have become more and more a touchy subject. Humans are by nature ethnocentric beings, meaning we are wired to view our own culture as ‘normal’ and ‘ideal’ and we match up and evaluate others to meet our standards by our own scale, which is only determined by our own culture. Humans naturally find it hard to think outside ourselves.

I love to talk about humility, it is not about thinking any less of yourself, but instead thinking of yourself a little less, being intentional about thinking about others more. When one is in the truest sense of humility, they still understand their self-value and self-worth, but they are also able to see others' worth and feel genuinely interested in other people.

Being ‘culturally humble’ is about being aware that the only culture you will ever fully understand is your own, while letting your curiosity and care for others constantly grow.

When we approach other cultures with humility and curiosity we are opening a door for connection, respect, and relational growth.
