Transitions

Last week marked the start of our Transition Program, with our 2024 Prep students having their first classroom experience with a Prep teacher.  Prep Transition provides an opportunity for pre-schoolers to become familiar with the school environment and meet a teacher and other students who will be in Prep in 2024. Thank you to Mrs. Emily Campbell for her organisation of Prep Transition, as it is an essential step in ensuring a smooth start to a child’s schooling.

At Croydon Hills Primary School, we aim to have students transition to their new levels and with a new teacher as seamlessly as possible. This Friday we have the start of our ‘Step Up’ program, where students will have the opportunity to spend the afternoon in a classroom of the next year level up. The students will be in mixed-up groups (not 2024 classes) to allow them to reconnect with peers from previous levels and also meet new students.  As part of this program students will hear about events and activities they can look forward to next year, as well as learn of any new expectations that come with being in a new level. There will be a second Step Up session later in the term, prior to Meet the Teacher on Tuesday December 12th.

Our teachers have also planned a range of less formal activities for students, which allow them to spend time with students across their level, including lunch-eating outdoor picnics and short plays in their new play areas.
