Middle School
Dear Families,
It has been another successful year at Middle School with many achievements, programs and learning opportunities for students. The Middle School continues to be a dynamic environment in which students have the opportunity to thrive and learn.
I want to take this opportunity to thank staff and families for their ongoing support of our Middle School Students. I wish everyone a well-deserved, restful break and all the best for 2024.
Kind regards,
Phil Adams
Assistant Principal - Middle School

Year 7 Retrospective
What a fantastic year it has been for our year 7s entering their first year of high school! It has been a HUGE year for students, learning so many new skills and making new friends. Our year 7 students have studied 10 different subjects this year, learned the layout of a brand new high school, learned to read a high school timetable, learned how to open a combination lock and learned how to navigate the canteen, to name a few of the new experiences they have had! Kaitlyn, Lucy, Belinda and Elise are immensely proud of all of our students and everything they have achieved in their first year of high school and we are confident that they will continue to be successful moving forward into year 8! We want to especially thank all parents and carers for supporting our year 7 students as they make this transition from primary school to high school - your partnership and support is so important to us and we are excited to continue to work together to support your child in the future.
This year has been full of many different experiences, events and excursions. These include our earlier events in the year, such as Lake Dewar and our Go Climb Excursion, alongside our jam-packed term 4 schedule of Bounce and the Melbourne Zoo. Students have represented our school with pride in all of these opportunities, have had a great experience bonding with new friends, and learned a lot along the way!
As well as lots of excursions and visits to new places, the year 7s have also enjoyed lots of activities in school. These include the home group dodge ball competition at lunchtime, with 7I coming away with the victory this year, the soccer competitions between different year levels, the Friday soccer program, inter school sport, and many more. Our merit card program this year has also been HUGELY successful, with students trading in countless cards for chocolate, movies, oreo storms and zooper doopers.
Moving forward into Year 8, students will have the opportunity to be involved in lots of new different events and excursions. They will also be able to try out new subjects, including art and food tech.
Thank you to all year 7s for such a great year - we are so proud of you. Please enjoy your well earned break over summer - we will see you fresh in 2024 for year 8!
Year 8 Retrospective
Yr 8
Hello! I can’t believe the end of the year has already arrived.
Hass and I would like to thank all the parents of Year 8 students for their ongoing support across all aspects of school life. We think the year has been an overall success and feel really proud of how well the Year 8 cohort have followed expectations, shown respect, embraced learning and positively represented the school when on excursions.
I have been blown away with the diversity of the skills, knowledge and expertise students in Year 8 shown across the year. From students who have 152,000 subscribers on YouTube, to a national Karate and Ice Skating champion, to students who have instrumental skills, cooking skills, art skills, acting & singing skills and of course the English, Maths and Science skills.
We have managed to fit in a lot of events this year including:
- Harmony Day
- Footy Day
- RUOK? Day
- Multiple Guest speakers addressing online behaviour, physical violence and its impact, multicultural workshops, cyber safety
- Art & Technology Exhibition
- Music Concerts
- Edgars Got Talent
- Ice Skating
- Roller Skating
- Go Climb! & Mini Golf
- Science Works
- Soccer & Futsal tournaments
- Interschool sport
- Chess competition
- Lunchtime clubs (textiles, chess, games, art, drama, rainbow, science, english, music, volleyball)
- Entrepreneur excursion
- Staff vs Student games
Next year there has been a change to the class times. We no longer have a homegroup. This means students are required at school in their period 1 class at 8:50am.
Year 9 is shaping to be a great year with lots of events, excursions, guest speakers and special programs.
Have a safe break and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
Year 9 Retrospective
The year 9 students had a busy yet exciting term 4 with many milestones as they prepare for their transition into senior school in 2024. Students participated in a variety of educational activities and team building events throughout the term.
City Experience
Between October 24th and November 2nd the year 9 students participated in their second City Experience of the year. The year 9 cohort was the first year level to have this opportunity twice in one year and this time students travelled via train to Docklands for ice skating and shopping at The District.
We were very proud of how the students conducted themselves throughout the experience and showcased the Edgars Creek values within the community.
Exams
Week 9 of term 4 was exam week for the year 9 students. This was the first opportunity for the year 9 cohort to experience exam conditions across four core subjects similar to the year 11 and 12 exam conditions. The entire leadership team were very impressed with the students attitude towards the exams and their preparation in the weeks leading up to exam week.
The level of engagement and focus by the year 9 cohort was a clear indication that students are ready for the next step in their secondary education as they move into senior school next year.
Luna Park
To celebrate an amazing year of learning at Edgars Creek Secondary College, the year 9 students travelled to St Kilda to spend the day at Luna Park. Students spent the day with their friends celebrating the end of their middle school experience with rides, food and time to walk around the park.
Just like the two city experiences, the students were respectful and showcased the College values throughout the entire day.
Cultural Day
A group of Year 9 students worked with the Centre of Multicultural Youth to organise Cultural Day at Edgars Creek Secondary College. Students attended school in cultural dress or sports club jerseys to participate in a parade on the North Courts and performances in the gym.
The year 9 CMY team did an amazing job organising and running the day of events, which also included a lunchtime soccer match between year 7/8 and year 9 students.
Stalls (BYOB)
On Thursday December 14th the Year 9 Build Your Own Business students set up and ran a set of market stalls in the gym as part of their course and curriculum for semester 2. Students sold chocolates, Zooper Doopers, soft drinks and more to students who attended during period 3 and 4 to build their skills in event planning and business.
