New Timetable Times for 2024
In response to our ongoing analysis of attendance data and trends, Edgars Creek Secondary College is trialling some changes to our timetable structure for the 2024 academic year.
In 2024, the following changes will take effect:
Home Group
There will no longer be a 12-minute home group session each morning. Our attendance data has shown that these important sessions are attended by 10% less students than other periods throughout the day. Instead, across Years 7-10, there will be at least a period allocated each week to focus on the important work and concepts that would usually have been covered in home group. As a result of this change, Period 1 will now start at 8.50am each day.
Period Length
Our lesson periods will shift from 48 minutes to 50 minutes in length in 2024. As part of our requirements as a government school, we must deliver a minimum number of minutes per week of instruction. By removing home group sessions, we have been able to extend learning in each period by two minutes across the week.
End of School Day Time
As a result of these changes, the end of the school day will move from 3.08pm to 3.10pm each day.
Period Times for 2024
There have been some minor shifts as a result of Period 1 now beginning at 8.50am each day in 2024. As you can see in the graphic below, this means that each important time in the day now begins and finishes at an easier-to-remember time.
