Performing Arts Wrap Up

The Year in Drama

This semester, students in Year 7-9 Performing Arts showcased their creative prowess by delving into various performance styles. Year 7 students embraced the world of Melodrama, immersing themselves in exaggerated performances and crafting original acts featuring classic stock characters like the hero, villain, and sidekick.

Meanwhile, Year 8 students transformed into detectives in Whodunnit Theatre, participating in workshops to understand archetype characters and putting their own spin on a Murder Mystery.

The Year 9 cohort took the spotlight with their musical production titled 'Lushfroze,' a brilliant fusion of Shrek, One Piece, and Frozen. From crafting an original script to bringing captivating characters to life, they demonstrated remarkable creativity. Throughout the semester, students honed their acting and stage design skills, learning industry-relevant techniques such as lighting plots, set design concepts, sound design, and staging. Engaging in co-directing and choreography, they gained hands-on experience in various aspects of theatre production.

This semester wasn't just about performances; it was a journey of growth, learning, and development for these aspiring actors. From the thrill of solving mysteries to the enchantment of creating a musical masterpiece, students had a blast while acquiring real-life skills that will undoubtedly propel them into the exciting world of performing arts.

The Year in Music

This semester in the music classroom, our Year 7 students explored percussion, focusing on West African and Latin music and culture. Their efforts were showcased during their final performances, where students demonstrated their ability to compose original percussion ensemble pieces, incorporating instruments and rhythms from both cultural traditions. The experience not only deepened their understanding of diverse musical styles but also fostered a strong sense of collaboration within the class.

Following units on the guitar and keyboard, Year 8 students have progressed to forming their own rock bands, applying their instrumental knowledge in collaborative musical tasks. Students have chosen their favourite instruments and songs, embarking on independent work to bring together a final performance. This process has not only improved their instrumental skills but encouraged autonomy and creativity in their music making.

The Year 9 music class achieved notable success with their recent concert. Their group performances invited students from various classes to join in an afternoon filled with music. The concert served as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, showcasing the proficiency they've achieved throughout the term.

Congratulations to all students for their outstanding achievements in music this semester!
