Exploring Forces In Action, with "Mad About Science"!
On Monday the 11th of September the 3/4s had a Science Incursion with 'Mad about Science' which had a focus on Forces. The students got to participate in different hands-on experiments to explore different types of forces.
Here is what they had to say:
“I loved doing the different experiments, especially the experiment where we had stones in a container and had to measure with a Newton metre how heavy it was by lifting it, dragging it and rolling it.” - Alec
“We added a special tablet to water in a tube. When we put the lid on the tube it popped off. It popped off because of the fizz and pressure inside.” – Esther
“I liked the experiment where we put a tablet in a test tube and it fizzed. We learnt about pressure.” – Ajooni
“I enjoyed trying to stack ten nails on top of another nail.” – Giorgiana
“I enjoyed using a gyroscope. I learnt about inertia.” – Jacob
“I learnt that inertia is a friction force.” – Hayley
“I learnt that balance is an unspoken sense.” – Steph
“I learnt that Sir Isaac Newton said that every force has an equal opposite.” – Jessica
I learnt that Isaac Newton showed what gravity was.” - Arlo
Elaria: My favourite part of the incursion was when the stopper flew off the test tube into the air!
Kester: I liked it when we used the gyroscopes. They were kind of like beyblades and they spun around.
Ariana: I enjoyed it when we tried to get the ping-pong ball and marbles into the cup.
Oliver: It was fun when we were challenged to balance 10 metal nails on 1 nail!
Vincent: My favourite thing about the science incursion was when we played with a magnetic toy that went around and around.
AK: It was good that the science experiments were really challenging to solve.
Alex: We explored the force of friction when we had to pull a container of rocks over different surfaces.
Eli: I was surprised when our presenter, Dom, balanced a drinks can on its edge.
Ethan: It was funny when we were trying to balance the nails and they kept falling off.
Angela: I liked learning how to use a Newton scale to measure force.
Olivia: I enjoyed making a rocket launcher using tablets.
Aarush: It was cool using the gyroscopes. They light up when they spin fast!
Hayden T: I liked everything. My favourite part was when we tried to balance 10 nails on a single nail.
Ashton: I liked how the gyroscopes glowed when they spun around!
Tara: The lid flew off the test tube because of the small explosion. We were all ecstatic!
Cindy: I loved it when the rocket popped off
Zac: It was cool when I finally got the ping pong ball in the cup
James: I loved it went he rocket went off
Nyapaar: It was fun when we had to try and balance 10 nails on top of one nail
Stella: My favourite part was the light up magnetic toy that went round and round
Anthony D: My favorite part was when the rocket lid flew off the tube and hit the roof
Isabelle: I liked how we all got to do hands-on experiments.
Thomas and Evan: It was good to do experiments that I have never experienced before.
Timmy: It was good to try different forces.
Olivia: I liked how we got to experiment with pressure.
Elise: I enjoyed learning how to measure forces.
Liam: I learnt about buoyancy, gravity and friction.
