Message From  Head of Primary

Courtney Hutton

It has been another big year at Wyndham Christian College. This year saw many new faces join our College including students, staff members and families. It has been wonderful to connect and strengthen our relationships as a College.

We welcomed a new cohort of Prep students who settled quickly into the routine of school life and have worked hard with their teachers and peers to successfully finish their first year of formal schooling. At the end of the year we saw our Year 6 students graduate and move from Primary students to Secondary. I would like to thank our Year 6 students who have led our Primary  community  well this year. They have displayed great encouragement in the playground, and helpfulness in the hallways. Their joy has left a legacy for the next group of students.

The students have been blessed to be involved in many different academic, sporting and leadership activities. These have included: Australian Mathematics Competitions, Prime Ministers Spelling Bee, Leadership conferences, class excursions, camps, cross country, athletics carnival, Harmony Day and Footy colours day, just to name a few. I would like to acknowledge the hard work by every teacher and student who has participated in these many activities. A special mention goes to Ruansh Chowdhury for being awarded best in the school for the Australian Mathematics Competition and to Javion Aranha, Mihir Bongu and Reyansh Ippagunta who qualified in the State Finals of the Prime Ministers Spelling Bee, well done boys on your amazing results.

This year in the Primary setting we have been blessed to have had students supported by new programs to assist our students with up to date and best practice engagement. Our Prep and Year 1 teachers have been trained in the Little Learners Love Literacy program, which is a structured synthetic phonics approach to reading, spelling and writing. It has been fantastic to see the fabulous results for reading and writing in those year levels. In addition, our whole primary staff have received training and mentoring from Jeni Wilson who is a leader in the field of Inquiry Learning. Inquiry based learning promotes active engagement and curiosity by encouraging students to ask questions, investigate, and seek answers independently. It also helps students develop a deeper understanding of subjects as they explore topics of personal interest, making the learning experience more meaningful. By collaborating with peers and sharing their findings, children also develop strong communication and teamwork skills.

We are so blessed to have such an amazing group of staff who strive to provide best practice and a  high level of education for all students. We appreciate and acknowledge the hard work and dedication the hard work of Mrs Debbie Creaner and Mrs Fernanda Cerf, as they supported the Primary School in their roles as assistants to the Head of Primary. At our College, the passion, love, kindness and dedication shown by all who work here makes the College a great community and place to work. As we approach the end of the year, may you all enjoy a break and have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends and be blessed. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
