Principal's Report

Tim Mulhall - Principal

Thank you to the Marlborough community for the warm welcome that I have received so far. My highlights from my first few days have been visiting classrooms to meet and work with the students and the conversations with the community before and after school.

Staffing Update

We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to our newest additions to the school staff, who will be accompanying us for at least the upcoming term.

- David Kight – Joining us full-time in the 5/6 team.

- Caroline Bowen – also joining our 5/6 team on Thursday and Friday to partner with Peter.

- Bonnie Ma – in an Education Support role.

We wholeheartedly welcome David, Caroline, and Bonnie into our school community with open arms.

Playground

Our new playground, located at the front of the school, is designed for our younger students, providing them with a safe and age-appropriate space for climbing and play. Additionally, it benefits our broader community by offering local children a safe and enjoyable play area outside of school hours.

This playground project became a reality due to the diligent efforts of the school council and funding from the Federal Government's Stronger Communities grant, facilitated by the Rotary Club of Maroondah. Thank you to all those involved in making this possible for our school.

We will have Michael Sukkar, our local member of parliament and a member of the Rotary Club, and Andrew Brownlie officially open the playground on Thursday the 5th of October.

Mural

Speaking of exciting new things, over the term break, we had a talented local artist, Tara Cull, paint a beautiful mural on the wall of the OSCH building. If you haven't seen this yet, it's worth the effort to stop by and check it out. Thank you to Tara for working within our budget, and thank you to our community for fundraising the money to make this happen. Works like this really enhance the visual appeal of our school.

Parking in the pick-up zone

On a more serious note, we had a very close call after school this week due to multiple cars being parked along the corner on Hardy Crescent. This blocks the visibility for students trying to see cars coming around the corner and for drivers to see students crossing the road. We want to keep our students as safe as possible, and this close call is a good reminder that we need to be diligent with road safety and avoid parking along that corner, which is a designated no-parking zone.

Breakfast Club

In the first week of school, Breakfast Club will be on Thursday between 8:30 am and 8:50 am with Christina.

However, for the rest of the term, Breakfast Club will be on Wednesday between 8:30 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. with our chaplain, Jeanette.

Thank you to Christina for your contributions to our Breakfast Club to date. We look forward to Jeanette continuing this worthwhile initiative.

Hats

Just a quick reminder that this term is a hat term. We've had lots of students coming into the office looking for a spare hat. If you could remind your child to pack their hat in their bag, it would be greatly appreciated.

Over the coming weeks, I look forward to more opportunities to get into our classrooms and work alongside our students. Additionally, I look forward to more conversations in the days and weeks ahead, where we can discuss both your children and our school in greater detail.
