Year 3
School Production:
We’ve had a busy term preparing for the school production in Art and in the Grade 3 classroom! We’ve been slowly getting through reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and doing some related creative tasks such as letter writing, making wizard wands, and designing our own magic potions! We have been reading through the script for the production too, where all the Grade 3 students will perform as wizards. We have Alastair as Harry Potter, Scarlett will be Hermione, and Soleil will be Ron (all with speaking roles). And Xavier will be voicing the Sorting Hat!
First Aid workshop:
We had a special guest come in last week and run a First Aid course for the students. They all did a great job and learned some valuable lessons about how to respond in an emergency situation. They answered questions competently and enthusiastically. They even practised moving someone into the recovery position. Well done Grade 3!
Bush Walk:
The students had a great time on the bush walk last week. We had a great discussion about an old miners cottage they found on their walk. It inspired us to learn a bit about the Gold Rush in our local area. Myself and Mrs Grainger (Clare) have done a writing activity with the students back in the classroom that re-imagines their experience on the bush walk. They have been writing narratives about being lost in the bush! It’s great to see more confidence in their writing and ideas.
Author’s Journal:
Every Friday morning this term, the students have been writing in their Author’s Journal. They have had to respond to a number of different writing prompts, such as “Write a letter to your future self…” and “If I was Prime Minister for a day I would…” We have focused on spelling, grammar and expression in these writing tasks and also explored writing in third person perspective.
