Prayer:
Loving Father,
as we come to the end of another term
we turn to you in confidence and place any difficult relationships
into the healing hands of Jesus, your Son.
Enable us to leave behind any regrets or worries,
entrusting the past to your mercy, the present to your love,
and the future to your providence.
Help us appreciate, more, the need to keep a good balance in our lives.
May the holiday be for us a time of rest and recreation to help restore us
and re-create us in your image and likeness,
as we enjoy more of the love and presence of our families,
on whom we ask your blessing.
Amen
Sacrament of First Reconciliation:
On Tuesday night, 30 students (mostly from St Xavier’s), met at St Joseph’s Church to make their First Reconciliation. After approximately five weeks of preparation in the Year 2 Religious Education lessons, they were ready to make this Sacrament of Healing. Father Abmar and Father Sabu (from Narrabri) listened to each child’s first confession and mentioned afterwards how reverently the candidates behaved. Please join me in congratulating the candidates, as well as thanking the Year 2 teachers, Bridgit Murphy, Catherine Smyth and Karen Guy for their preparation of the St Xavier’s candidates. I would also like to extend my gratitude towards the family members who volunteered to help cook the BBQ at Tuesday’s Retreat Day - Steven Snape, Glen Baker and Matt O’Keefe - thank you!
Feast of Our Lady of La Salette - Tuesday 19th September
On Tuesday, Catholics around the world celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of La Salette, who appeared to two children on the Alps of La Salette, France, in 1846. This day is particularly significant to us, as our Parish Priest, Fr Abmar, is a priest of the Missionaries of La Salette religious order.
Remember, dear Lady of La Salette,
true Mother of Sorrows,
the tears which thou
didst shed for me on Calvary;
be mindful also of the unceasing care
which thou dost exercise
to shield me from the justice of God;
and consider whether thou
canst now abandon thy child,
for whom thou hast done so much.
Inspired by this consoling thought,
I come to cast myself at thy feet,
in spite of my infidelity and ingratitude.
Reject not my prayer, O Virgin of reconciliation,
convert me, obtain for me
the grace to love Jesus Christ above all things
and to console thee too by living a holy life,
in order that one day I may be able
to see thee in Heaven.
Amen.
