ART EXHIBITION AND GRANDPARENT’S DAY

We are very excited to announce our biennial Art Exhibition and Grandparent’s Day will be held on the afternoon of Monday 23 October.  Students have been working hard throughout Terms 1, 2 and 3 on their exhibition pieces.  Grandparents are invited to attend from 2.00pm onwards.  We have staggered visiting times to allow all groups to have time and space to appreciate the wonderful exhibition pieces.

  • 2.00pm - Prep/Year 1/Year 2
  • 2.30pm - Year 3/Year 4
  • 2.45pm - Year 5/Year 6

Grandparents are invited to share in an afternoon tea of tea/coffee and scones before and after their visit to the Art Room. There will be an exhibition opening at 2.00pm on the Library lawns.

SPOTLIGHT ON MYRNIONG LEARNING

Year 1 - Students have commenced a Geography unit exploring the natural and built features of the environment.  They have practiced using grid references to find places on simple maps and have learned to use the key/legend to interpret features on a map.

Year 3 - To complete the Climate topic, the students have been looking at natural disasters, what causes them and where in the world they’d be likely to encounter one.  They have made connections to the different climate zones and created 3D models to show their research.

Year 4 - Students have begun their Civics and Citizenship Inquiry study into the role of their local government and the services they provide in our community.  They are examining how rules and laws affect them and the importance of laws in society.  This also ties in nicely with our persuasive writing unit where children are convincing different readers about their point of view such as changing different rules and laws.

Year 5 - Students in Year 5 have been concluding their Space Unit studying the phases of the moon, and the Earth’s rotation and revolution cycles.  They have participated in hands on sessions to explain these cycles and made small scale paper models.  Students have also been ‘star gazing’ out of school and have submitted many wonderful photographs of ‘Our Amazing Skies’ for our class competition.

Year 6 - Students have been honing their narrative writing skills.  They have been tasked with creating a ‘Mr. Men’ style narrative, using one of the 24-character strengths as a central theme.

STUDENT DIARY ART COMPETITION

Our theme for the 2024 student diaries is ‘Australian Flora and Fauna’. Students from the Early Learning Centre to Year 3 and Years 4, 5 and 6 will be invited to submit their A4 portrait-orientated entries to the Junior Campus Reception by 27 October.

Mrs Cameron will cast her expert ‘creative eye’ over entries and two submissions will be selected for the Prep to Year 3 and Year 4 to Year 6 diaries. Best of luck to all students.
