One of the parts in the annual cycle of a school that I enjoy most is the interviewing and appointment of the next year’s student leaders. This process elicits those things that the applicants value about their school, as well as those things they would like to see improved or changed. I never fail to come away thinking how fortunate we are as a society and nation to have young people of intelligence and integrity offering themselves as leaders; we are in good hands.
This process is, though, also always a difficult one. There are invariably more applicants than positions and the process of discerning stand-outs is often very challenging. I thank all students who put themselves forward for Senior School leadership positions and they should know that, even if they weren’t successful, their impact and contribution is appreciated.
