3/4 Camp
Despite being hit with a bout of gastro on the last day of camp, the students and staff had a fantastic time! The newly renovated campsite at Golden Valleys Lodge is very impressive and the activities offered were great. Thank you to all of the staff who attended camp, in particular those staff who nursed sick children on the bus ride on the way home. Staff who attended camp included Brendan, Olivia, Sophie, Carlye, Debbie, Mary and Kim.
Whole School Professional Practice Day Monday 2 October - Student Free Day
On Monday 2 October (first day of Term 4), all of our teaching staff will be participating in a Professional Practice Day. This is a student free day so the first day of school for our students will be Tuesday 3 October.
The Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2022 provides teachers with two professional practice days in 2023 and one professional practice day in 2024 and beyond. The work undertaken on these days will be consistent with departmental and school priorities and selected from the following areas:
- planning
- preparation
- assessment of student learning
- collaboration
- curriculum development
- relevant professional development
- peer observation including feedback and reflection
The timing and focus of each day for each teacher will be nominated by the teacher and be agreed in consultation with the principal. Where the timing and, or focus are not agreed the timing will be determined by the principal and the focus of the day will be determined by the teacher and must be consistent with the focus areas set out above.
The department recommends schools hold one professional practice day on the same day for all staff.
Class Placement for 2024
At the start of Term 4 our teachers will commence creating the classes for 2024. Within class, teachers will ask students to list 4-5 friends that they work well with in the classroom. We are asking you to please have a chat with your child at home to start identifying these friends.
If you have a request for your child’s class placement due to wellbeing concerns, please ensure that you make this request (in writing, to Jane Bilby or Rachel Corben) no later than Monday 16 October, so that your request can be considered when organising classes for 2024. Creating classes is a very complex process and it is very difficult to make changes to the classes once they are formed. One change can have a flow on effect and impact strategic decisions and other class placement requests. We are not able to consider class placement requests made after 16 October.
At Carlton North Primary School we recognise the importance of fostering and maintaining friendship groups. We also understand that it is equally important for students to mix and learn with peers who have different interests. We will not always be able to accommodate class placement requests but will endeavour to take your wishes into consideration where possible.
All teachers at CNPS are caring and committed educators and CNPS strives to ensure that all students are provided with a high quality education. Whilst we appreciate that you may believe that your child would benefit from being placed in a class with a particular teacher, we are generally unable to accommodate these requests.
The Class Placement Policy can be found on the school’s website.
