Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

Dear Boarding Families

This week has been another eventful week in the Boarding Community at Marist College Ashgrove.

Mr James Boyce accompanied me to the Emerald Boarding Schools Expo. We were able to meet with many of the current and future potential families and took the opportunity to mix with them at Hops & Vine on the Thursday evening.

Mr Michael Newman, Mr Ty Casey, Mr David Finch, Mr Pierce Hardy and I were fortunate to attend the Marist Boarding Schools Conference in Sydney over the long weekend. We were able to network with similar Boarding schools within Marist platforms and share information to help us all further our knowledge and understandings to continually strive for improvements and maintaining the best standards of care possible for our amazing young men.

Next week we will be celebrating National Boarding Week from 11 -17 May. The bunting will proudly be hanging between the dorms to show off all of the hard work of teachers and the students working together to repurpose old uniforms, learn new skills and work collaboratively to thread all of the artworks along the rope.

We will be providing Coffee on Tuesday to celebrate all of our amazing staff who work alongside our boarders.

Keep an eye out on the socials on Wednesday for special mentions from the boys to send a big shout out and thank you to all the parents and Guardian who care for them from afar.

Ty Casey is assisting ABSA (Australian Boarding Schools Association) to host the National Boarding Leaders Dinner on 15th May 2025. It will be based at Marist in the Cyprian Pavilion but will link with four other school sites around Queensland.

Finally, we wish all of our wonderful boarding mothers a very happy Mother's Day.

Boarding Recreation

We stayed onsite on Friday with a boarders arvo feast, touch footy, BBQ dinner and games in the gym as many boys prepared for their Round 1 sport matches on Saturday morning. It’s great to see such high participation in the AIC sports program as the dorms emptied on Saturday morning. The boys also did a good job supporting the premier Football and Rugby teams as they both secured victories over Iona College.

On Saturday, our Marvel fans and moviegoers headed down to Southbank to watch the new Marvel movie, Thunderbolts. There were mixed reviews in the group with some finding all sorts of hidden messages and meanings while others spent more time studying their choctops and popcorn boxes. The next visit will be for the new Mission Impossible movie coming out in a few weeks' time.

A dicey weather forecast came right on Sunday as we headed up the coast for a day at Mooloolaba. It had been a while since our last beach trip and the boys certainly made the most of the waves and sunshine. It was lighter numbers than usual with some boys heading out for yet another long weekend but those onsite had a great time nonetheless. A quiet bus trip home led us to Mass and an early night for many after a big weekend of sport and recreation.
