The EALD department had a busy and exciting Term 1, filled with engaging learning, new friendships, and great progress in English. We’re proud of our students’ efforts and achievements and are looking forward to another fun and productive Term 2 ahead!

Guided Reading Books

Using guided reading levelled books is a great way to teach reading to EALD children. These books are carefully matched to each child’s reading ability, helping them build skills step-by-step without feeling overwhelmed. With the right level, children can practise reading strategies, learn new words, and grow their confidence. Guided reading also allows teachers to give support and feedback in small groups, making learning more personal and effective.

Talking and Listening Activities

Talking and listening activities are very important for helping EALD students learn. These activities give students a chance to hear new words, practise speaking, and build their confidence in English. By listening to others and sharing their ideas, students improve their understanding, pronunciation, and ability to communicate in real-life situations.

Writing a Sentence

Learning to write a basic, grammatically correct sentence helps EALD students build a strong foundation in English. It teaches them how to put words together correctly, making their ideas clear and easy to understand. As they master simple sentences, students gain confidence to write longer texts and improve both their English skills and overall writing ability.

Multimodal Texts

EALD children learn best through multimodal texts because they can see, hear, and interact with information in different ways. Using devices like tablets and computers allows them to access videos, pictures, audio, and interactive activities that make learning English easier and more exciting. Learning through devices helps them build language skills faster by providing extra support, instant feedback, and opportunities to practise at their own pace.

Sight Words Activity

Sight word activities help EALD learners develop reading fluency, recognise high-frequency words instantly, and improve comprehension. They reduce decoding effort, support grammar understanding, and build confidence, making it easier for learners to read and engage with English texts effectively.
